Forums - Nintendo - Resident Evil 7 Cloud Version announced for Switch, launches this coming week

I recently saw a video with the CEO of Verizon talking about how 5G's ultra low latency will allow much better video game streaming. So in a few years you could theoretically stream games on your switch on the go, if you live in an urban area at least. Whether you like it or not, I think this is probably the direction much of the industry will be going in the next 3-7 years.

That's precicely the point. Capcom's practices with the Switch have so far been so insultingly bad, most Switch users would rather NOT have their games at all. I don't feel blessed to have RE7 on Switch, or Monster Hunter. I would surely buy those games on my Switch rather than my PC or PS4 though, if given the chance.

Capcom is simply screwing us over big time, losing money in the process, and severely alienating their fans. If I were asked 4-5 years ago, what my favourite video game companies are, Capcom would surely be in the top 3. Now, it's by far the lowest for me.

Well it still remains to be seen how they handle development/ports of major games that were developed while Switch was a thing. We are one year into Switch's lifecycle, but none the wiser really. But I think 2018 will paint a clearer picture of what we can expect going forward.

I think not having games at all is rarely ever a better better choice than having them in some form. Provided that this doesn't negatively affect future ports of games.
That said, I wonder if they really created this infrastructure just for RE7 on Switch. They probably have at least some other games in consideration, depending on how this pans out.

Oh but it is worse, we have a number of examples to that. Wii had tons of shovelware, iOS / Android devices, Atari, etc. It may provide a short term boost and cash, but WILL hurt in the end. Capcom much more than Nintendo, that's for sure.

Cloud version.... Im confused. What is this? Just some part of the original game?

Or is it the whole game but you can only play it online?

You get to play the entire game..... streamed from the internet.

So get ready to enjoy compression artifacts, lower resolutions (might actually be higher? switch isnt that powerfull), and input lag.
Theres tons of drawbacks to this though, its def. not preferable to running it on local hardware.

If you have a PC or PS4, thats where you should play it instead.

What I mean is, if it was this or nothing, and we assume Capcom won't do this again for future games that could and should be ported to Switch, how is it then worse to have this as an option for those who want it?

PS2 had more shovelware than maybe any system in history, but it also had a very large number of quality games, so all the crap that was also on the system didn't matter.

I have serious doubt that Capcom will bring anything of substance to the platform, even later on, and you can quote me on that. And again, apparently, many people have been asking for serious Capcom support / games for a while and get this. This will get them a few quick yen, and bite their ass later on, big time.

As for the few people that really do want this kind of "service", I guess they will be happy to get to play the game, but I cannot imagine them being more than a few thousand.

I don't understand how this will work, but I can't imagine this running all that well, especially if your internet sucks.

There will be a minimum speed required to play the game.
If your internet isnt up to part, the game probably wont run.
And it ll probably also adjust quality of visuals & resolution up and down, depending on how much bandwidth you have.

Also if you pay pr MB or GB downloaded, and the 20$ pricetag of this + that,...... yeah while you can buy the PS4 version for 24$ on amazon.

Precicely. Capcom has mistreated Nintendo to such a degree this generation, they will get burned eventually. They need Nintendo in order to survive, and most fans are getting (understandably) pretty angry / upset.

Capcom doesn't need Nintendo to survive, at all. The way they're treating the Switch is pretty infuriating, but let's not kid ourselves.

I'm wondering how the hell Nintendo is letting this abomination exist.

Sounds interesting. To bad there is not a western announcement as it seems to be Japan only.

Excited to see the possibilities of other high end games that cannot run on the Switch to be streamed. More games!

Agreed. I believe Nintendo is going to analyze a lot of data from their online service to maybe even test an online platform that may stream games to certain hardware.

Too advanced for them right now but I agree that this is most likely the future.

Also, funny thing, this might be a Japan play but it ain't going over well. Dislike ratios on the announcement trailer aren't pretty and while I can't read Japanese, the idea must have gotten shredded in the comments cause they've disabled them now. :P

Monster Hunter World proved that they don't need Nintendo. Both re7 and Monster Hunter have sold extremely well on ps4, the latter at a higher price point then the old games + a GAAS model to insure future content.

Don't overestimate the effect that MHW had. Don't get me wrong, it was a great success for Capcom, and they should never go back to being Nintendo-only or handheld-only, but for every MHW there were a SFV and Capcom vs Marvel disaster.

Meanwhile, on Nintendo platforms, they always had great success (MH on handhelds) or mild, profitable successes like RE on Switch, Phoenix Wright games, etc. Basically Nintendo is very risk averse for them, and they would be stupid to turn their backs on them, which is exactly what they are doing.
