I made that very clear in the first sentence, and even before that I gave an example in my first post. Grab a chair, let me explain something; The OP claims the narrative/dialogue has inconsistencies, and he gave us a line from Atreus. 'Are we going to fight that thing?' Consider the fact that Atreus is a child, probably not older than 12. Would a kid say something like that when he and his parent is faced with danger? I don't know what could be going through the kids mind at that point, but I would imagine the answer would be yes given to the fact that Atreus is a child and is looking at Kratos for guidance. The OP claims the map is the worst. Trust me, I've seen worse. Besides that, the game is not a fully open world game, the lay of the land is nearly straight forward. Would a prettier map help? No it won't. Trust me, I know joke threads. |
The "example" you gave in your first post was the following:
Let this thread go out silently. In a nutshell the OP arguments is basically like this. Example: Bosses are too weak on Easy Mode.
If you want to claim that the OP's arguments are similar to the straw man you've drawn up, you have to explain how. What exactly in his post is as absurd as being upset that bosses are too weak on easy mode? Or, since you've gone as far as to claim that all of his arguments are that ridiculous, you have to demonstrate how. Otherwise, again, you look like you're just disagreeing because the OP's opinions don't line up with your own.
Ideally, that should be done in the post where you accuse the OP of having arguments on par with that level of ridiculousness, and not three posts later.

That's a reasonable argument, and one that actually contributes to the discussion. Again, though, I think that's the kind of thing that should be coming out in the first post rather than just an accusation of trolling.

If you'll note the quotation: "perhaps the worse I've seen in a game." Emphasis on "I've seen." As in, you may have seen worse, but the OP does not believe he has. The fact that you've encountered worse laid out maps does not mean the same is true for everyone.
And, quite frankly, no, I can't say I trust you to know joke threads. Even though I find some of the OP's points and formatting questionable, there's nothing here that suggests an intent to troll or just get people upset. If the OP's intention is to play a practical joke by having a serious discussion about the merits of a game with most of the people that have responded on here, then sign me up for more of those jokes, because the gaming community as a whole could certainly use them.

If you want to have a discussion regarding semantics then lets take it to private messages. Secondly, If you don't understand something then just say explain and I would happily do so. Finally, attempting to discredit the initial claim made by me by substituting vocabulary for logic is petty. Thanks for wasting my time in this joke thread.

Hmm, ok mostly i disagree with your opinion. Think you are picking on too many things that the player interacts with very little. For one i hate the gear/level system, compared to the rest of the game it stands out as the most unfocused and lazy mechanic in the game. Everything else they pretty much nailed.
That being said i will say that its a masterpiece compared to 99% of whats out there. To me its a masterpiece becasue of how much the gameplay and the characters have evolved compared to the other games in the series.

If you can't be asked to read what he wrote, then you really don't wanna know his opinion all that much. Nothing wrong with that necessarily, but I don't see the point of people coming into a thread where a guy is trying make a case for whatever it may be, and lays out his points in as much detail as possible, only to complain that they want the cliff notes.
If all he gave people was the cliff notes, or all people decided to read - if available - was the cliff notes, then they would simply use it as an opportunity to misconstrue his argument, because at that point, it's taken out of all context. Context that they apparently don't care to know. And if in fact you don't care about the context of his argument, then you're not a person he needs to spend any time arguing with in the first place. Again....nothing necessarily wrong with that, everybody doesn't need to get into it with everybody about everything. Just don't come in and act like you care to get in on a conversation if you've already demonstrated that you clearly don't care that much.

I'm not here to debate semantics. Nothing I've said even remotely resembles that, and I'm not entirely sure where you've gotten that from. My point was ad is, if you're going to accuse someone of trolling, it's generally polite to provide tangible examples as to why you believe they're trolling. If you just say "OP's arguments are comparable to (insert straw man here)," without showing how or why you believe that, then you look like the one who's trolling.
That's my only issue. If you have a problem with that, feel free to respond/PM/whatever.
Also, if you're so darn convinced it's a joke thread, why even bother posting and giving it more attention in the first place?

It is a fact whether you disagree or not. Much of the narrative structure in GOW is broken to the point of silliness. Out of interest, when the boy starts hacking at the troll, what did you take from what he was saying? |
I honestly have no idea what you're talking about in regard to the narrative. We start with kratos and Atreus, aka "boy". They go and get a big log for kindling, while there kratos bandage comes loose where his blades are (were?), he hides this from the boy. Not sure whether it's him thinking about what he's previously been through, or whether it's a reminder of the betrayal of Ares wherein he killed his own wife and child after praying to the god for power and bloodlust. They get home, and the mom gets moved to the pyre. The boy cries a bit, takes her knife and they go hunting. Over the course of the hunting we see that atreus is headstrong and reckless. He chases the deer, he doesn't hunt it. He takes the first shot he gets a chance at and misses. He doesn't know how to hunt. He's a little kid trying to prove himself to a father that never took him hunting. He's chided left and right by kratos. They eventually find and shoot the deer, and the boy finds himself ashamed that he cannot stab the animal with the knife. Kratos knows he feels bad about it, but instead simply hands him the knife, which is a sign of respect in itself, or rather, understanding and challenging. (contrast this with taking away the weapon Atreus wasn't actually ready to use). It's kind of like, "here, you didn't do it on your own, but I know you will next time. Make it up to yourself". You wanted unspoken dialogue- there it is.
The troll then attacks, and we hear kratos call atreus by name for what seems like the first time, out of fear for his safety (showing kratos does care about him, but is addressing him as the distant/cold moniker 'boy' purposely, though we cannot be sure his exact reason). The boy doesn't seem to know what to do, run or fight, and asks whether they are going to fight it. Kratos says they have no choice, ie, they cannot run. After killing the troll, the boy runs up stabbing the troll repeatedly, which to me appeared to be a child trying to make up for his failure at stabbing the deer and show that he IS strong "Think I'm afraid of you?" "you're nothing to me".
I'm not sure why you interpreted this dialogue as 'saturday morning cartoon'-ish, but to me it was pretty clear that kratos cares about the boy, and is trying to be a strong role model. The boy is clearly undertrained and childish, and is trying his hardest to prove that he's something he's not. The "fight that thing" line, was so obviously a question made out of fear. His stabbing of the troll and dialogue while doing so alludes to both the deer and his fear through a rejection of his inability to be strong.
That's just my point of view. I think your suggestion of him giving a "head nod" would have been out of character for the boy at this point in the story because a head nod indicates patience and steadiness, which clearly he is not.
In my opinion, the opening narrative displays a conflicted father-figure leading his somewhat estranged child the only way he really knows how, and a son who basically exemplifies the pre-cursed kratos and isn't ready for the harsh realities of the world ahead; Both of them struggling to bear with the coming journey and likely perilous dangers that lie await. I thought it was a cleverly brief and articulate exposition using actually very little dialogue.

Are you going to do this for every thread and every game that gets the same reception?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.
So much butthurt and ad hominem in this thread. Good grief.
@op - Did you like GoW 1/2/3 better/worse?

Agreed so unnecessary. It should be common sense it is his opinion.
