Forums - Gaming - God of War is probably the best game of this generation so far

I'm loving it, I'm impressed, happy like a kid :) Santa Monica has done something special, the best game on PS4 for me.

Good to know, have fun : ) It is really funny and sad at the same time, how Kratos addresses his son with "Boy" xD

My prediction now: 10 million units are possible worldwide, lifetime. The big success is very important, Santa Monica wants to become a bigger studio in future, i think.

I actually started the game on the hardest difficulty, but a couple hours into it I realized that I made a mistake, and had to restart the whole experience to change it any further. I played on the second-hardest difficulty then through most of the game. I turned the difficulty down to easy for a few of the end-game things where level played a large role.

Told ya ^_^ to restart early.I feel ya, I made the same mistake. It's damn near impossible and kind of cheapens the game but damn did it feel refreshing to be able to take two or three hits by a boss you before you got downed, that second chance made all the difference. I think they need to redesign the health system in the hardest difficulty, replace it all with stackable vials or something even if it was just three max, it'd still be hard as fuck, a ton harder than dark souls but it would impact the games combat in a less negative way and be less of an utter head fuck. They went way overboard on that.

With the amount of attacks that can easily one-shot you on the hardest difficulty, a health system like you proposed could be a good solution. Ideally the defense stat would be modified as well, as I can't think of a use it would have with that setup. I'm still not keen on comparing the game's difficulty to Dark Souls, though. I suppose there are a lot of factors that determine how hard something is. If it's based on the number of deaths, then something like Super Meat Boy could be called the hardest game. God of War has difficult combat, but punishment is what defined the difficulty in Dark Souls.

Disclaimer: Dark Souls is one of my favorite games

I guess I'll have to give this game a try once the price drops to $20 or so. I tried the first two GoW games and they were ok but nothing special IMO. When it comes to 3D beat em ups I tend to prefer the musou style of games. But since they've changed up the formula for GoW4, I guess I'll have to give it a try at some point.

its the best LOOKING game judging by what I played so far, but I don't think its going to dethrone Bloodborne, The Witcher 3 and Forza Horizon 3 as my top 3 in the "fun" department, although I am reasonably enjoying my time.

yeah. And the best god of war-title of all time now.

Personally for me, it's in the best of all time. Though i did realise that after around 30 hours the game really burns you out.

Divinity Original Sin 2.

As an Xbox gamer I finally decided to buy a PS4 Pro and got the God of War bundle  and let me say I was truly amazed at how polished the game is in every respect..  I had never witnessed this much detail in a video game since I played Red Dead Redemption when that first came out.   The graphics are amazing, the story is engaging , the voice acting is splendid, the gameplay mechanics above all is outstanding.  And perhaps I will get a lot of hate for saying this but i truly this game is the best Sony exclusive on the PS4 and yes even better than Uncharted 4 (which i had played at my friend's house).  I am not exageratting when I saw how polished this game is,   as a person who dislikes hack and slash games this game kept me engaged the whole time.  It is truly a masterpiece .

What are your first impressions of the game?

Just like you, I was an Xbox gamer who decided to pick up a PS4 for this game. I have not been disappointed either, and I struggle to see it as a hack and slash as it seems to be more than that (even if that is what it is in principle).

ive still not quite finished it but yes, so far at least it tops any game I've played in the current generation of consoles. Probably only Breath of the Wilds comes close.

I have (obviously) not beaten every game this gen, but out of all of the ones ive played (quality wise) GOW is the best one, the quality is just everywhere especially on the gameplay where it matters the most.

Nier Automata is still my favorite game though, there is a lot about that game that just resonates with me more, but a lot of that is kind of subjective, spoilers: (like the feelings it gave me at the end and the excitement and adrenaline i felt at certain parts of the game, and i get it that emotions is a very subjective topic what i might have found deeply touching or incredibly exciting will surely not be the same for everyone), its hard to explain but essentially while i loved Automata and i find it more memorable, i cant deny that quality wise GOW is on another league on almost every element except for the OST where i think Automata is actually better (though GOW still has one of the best soundtracks this gen), and story telling (obviously GOW is a masterpiece in this aspect but at the same time Automata did something pretty original in the way it told its story, and i dont think it needs to envy GOW at all).
