Forums - Gaming Discussion - Dragon Quest XI Detailed Interview Regarding Switch Version and 3DS version.

Dualshocker recently talked  with Dragon Quest XI Producer Hokuto Okamoto. From all interesting conversation , there are some that is very important to discuss , they are the detailed reason why the Switch version is late and why there is no 3DS version for western release.

The reason for no 3DS version for the western market

" Considering that we haven’t released a mainline numbered Dragon Quest game for the past thirteen years or so on consoles — it’s been since Dragon Quest VIII — we were looking at various options for what would be the best way to bring this game onto market in the overseas territories and we truly felt that the PS4 and PC version would be the best outlet."

The reason why the Switch version will take a lot of times, and info about the stage of development  and when the possible date release,

"Unfortunately we can’t quantify the time frame yet based on the current situation

To give you some background, when we were initially developing XI we did have the Switch version in our outlook for the platforms we wanted to release the game on. That being said, at that moment in time the SDK (Software Development Kit) for the Nintendo Switch wasn’t ready, which means we couldn’t start working on the port of game.

Now that the SDK is ready and the engine supports it we were able to startworking to support that platform for the game. That being said, the version of Unreal Engine 4 that supports the Switch is actually a version that’s higher than what Dragon Quest XI was built on, so that means we need to upgrade the engine and that comes with a slew of issues. "

The real reason for no 3DS version in the west is likely because Nintendo wouldnt publish it.

But that’s SquareEnix job.

It should be their job but a bunch of Dragon Quest games to come west on a Nintendo platform have been published by Nintendo.

Also when it came to localizing DQVII on 3DS, they actually said it wouldn't have happened without Nintendo footing the bill.

I can't really blame Nintendo for not publishing the 3DS version, not only it would cost them more than it would probably do (the 3DS isn't moving that many units anymore, and DQ XI won't change that), but making the Switch the only version will push that harware for the JRPG fans in the West. Still, SE should publish their own games and stop being lazy in regards to that, specially when they always tell us they want to make the series big in the West.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I know, but that only means it’s still SE fault.

Also it shows their lack of faith in the game, if they really wanted to grow DQ on the west they would localize absolutely every version of every DQ game.

seems the switch version could not make it until 2019

Wasn't this one the very first games teased/announced when Switch was still NX?  Why do that, when this is the message we are getting now?  Either a total bs move on their part, or they are not giving the whole truth at this point.

I didnt say it wasnt, i just said SE probably isnt bringing it over because Nintendo isnt footing the bill like they did with other titles.
