Forums - Sony - God of War review thread - Meta: 94 OC: 95

I'm curious to see if it's really that good. I've been replaying the original trilogy in 'preparation' and I feel kind of sad that they'll never fully realize the potential of that kind of gameplay, but I also agree that after 6 games in that vein and still no masterpieces (imo), the series needed a new direction.

I'm really on the fence, but I'll be getting it day one to see for myself

I make game analyses on youtube:

Should get the game early sometime this week. Can’t wait for the brutal combat. Hope the hardest setting is unlocked off the bat.

Don't most GoW games score really good on metacritic, that would be like expecting a 3d Mario game to not score very high. Its probably the most iconic franchise Sony has that's associated with the brand...

This one is a new direction though so people were worried. Also the last God of War only got 80 on the metacritic, so this is a big jump.

Well...if you honestly believe that there's no masterpiece among the previous gow games, you will probably be disappointed by this one as well.

Consider your own taste first and the scores later. I was personally disappointed by botw and odyssey. I've never been a big fan of those games, but the amazing reviews led me to buy both. It's not like I thought they were bad, I just...couldn't comprehend how they managed to score so well despite having some serious shortcomings (imho). Same thing for GTA games. I bought GTA4 because of the reviews and I couldn't even finish it, it was just so boring to me.

I don't care who you are. Between God of War, Horizon, Uncharted 4, Shadow of the Colossus, Bloodborne, and the Yakuza series you need to own a PS4. Even if it's just a secondary system, that's 7 games that need to be played, and will appeal to almost anyone. Bonus points if you don't want to emulate Persona 5, which is another must play game. Nier Automata, and Nioh are both on PC, but if anybody were to get a PS4 without having a good gaming PC, I would tell them to get those two games as well.

Also, Easy Allies, and Destructoid both gave this a 10/10. Those are the best reviewers on the web IMO, because they are made up of fans.

I was just looking up the review scores for all of those games, and yeah! I don't know how anyone could not like PS4 between that group of games. Add Ratchet & Clank to that list as well, plus all the indies.

Great system, lots of games, lots of variety, and lots of options.

I would recommend a Switch and PS4, because between those two systems you have two sets of outstanding first party/exclusive titles, you have all the multiplatform games, you have mobility, you have power, you have everything. I am quite happy with those two.

I mentioned that it would be crazy seeing anyone give this less than a 6. Glad to know the majority of reviewers out there agree.

Sadly there's going to be that one "reviewer" who thinks its better than the rest by giving a low score.

Late reviews tend to give more absurd scores because the reviewer wants it to stand out. Just want a few days and there will surely be someone giving it a 6/10.

I saw slant review gave Zelda BOTW a 6/10 and GoW a 9/10. Least that's one potential troll reviewer out of the way.

Very high score, indeed. Congrats to the developers.

Has it been Jim Sterling's turn already? Imagine, what if he gave it a 7/10 (even if it wouldn't affect the score)?

Slant is usually the one that gives the lowest scores, but there are a few others that don't miss the opportunity when they see a highly rated game.
