Forums - Nintendo - Will Secret of Mana ever come to the VC?

This is both a request for it to happen and an inquiry if anyone has heard any rumors of such a thing happening.

I for one would love to see it on the VC. I lost it along with everything for my original Super Nintendo (including the system itself) when they all mysteriously disappeared when I was in college. I bought an old SNES on eBay after I graduated college, along with some of my favorite games, but Secret of Mana wasn't one of them. I suppose I could buy it off eBay now, but it's going for $35-$50 in a bunch of auctions, which seems an absurd price to pay for a 15 year old game, especially since the SNEs plus a package including Super Mario All Stars, Super Mario World and Street Fighter II Turbo was $50 in the first place.  And how can a game that sold 1.8 million copies be considered "rare," anyway?

But I digress. Anyone know if it'll happen? Does anyone else want it to happen?

My consoles and the fates they suffered:

Atari 7800 (Sold), Intellivision (Thrown out), Gameboy (Lost), Super Nintendo (Stolen), Super Nintendo (2nd copy) (Thrown out by mother), Nintendo 64 (Still own), Super Nintendo (3rd copy) (Still own), Wii (Sold)

SoM = great game. Have any square games come on VC yet? No (I think). But this one should.

I owned this for my SNES back in the day. I had all my spells powered to level 9. Not 8 (which most would think was the highest level), but to level 9. I also had a few of the weaopns that had the capability to go to level 9, but it seemed that no matter how many enemies I killed the experience was not increasing.

BTW, spells on level 9 had different animations that would occur at random. For instance the fireball spell was three fiery dragon heads (or something like that; have not played in a long time).

My cousin almost pooped his pants when he saw how high my levels were. Many hours invested in that one.

No, no Square games on VC yet, but damn it, they should already!

Yeah, back in the day I had all my spells at the 9 level, and I think all my weapons too. If I remember correctly, you could only have spells leveled up to your current total number of seeds, and, similarly, you could only level up your weapons to the current version number of the weapon (so not after your got the level 8 sword orb, but once you took that orb to the blacksmith guy and he upgraded the weapon).

Those alternate spell animations were badass. And I think they always took off like 950-999 damage.

Damn, I'm making myself really want to play this game again. Curse you Wii and your dearth of RPGS!

Well, there's been one Square game (Not counting the Enix), I think called King's Knight, on the VC. As for Secret of Mana coming to the VC, it's possible, though I'm pretty sure, judging from SE's behavior, they will either release it on the VC or make a DS remake. Edit: I remember playing Secret of Mana back in the day and at the end of the game, I was killing random monsters near the entrance and one of them dropped a sword orb, which I took back to the blacksmith and he made a "Daedalus Sword" or something to that effect. I have NO idea how the hell I did it and I only had it happen once.

Glad I'm not the only one who powered up my spells to level 9! Sounds like you spent about as much time playing this game as I did.

Many hours of standing in front of an inn casting defensive magic till magic was zero, sleep recharge MP and repeat process.

No... expect a remake for full price and more on the DS, as S.E. always does...

hopefully they don't ruin it while attempting to remake it.

I remember being a child and getting Secret of Evermore for Christmas one year. I was slightly disappointed by it because I was expecting the greatness that was Secret of Mana. Of course, I saw Evermore for what it was and enjoyed it (especially the reference to Final Fantasy IV in the medieval period!).

it definatly wasn't the masterpiece that was secret of mana but was still a solid game
