edit: also uncharted and last of us are mind numbingly boring. The modern tomb raiders are much better.

The modern Tomb Raiders are SO MUCH better than the Uncharted games. Finally found someone who shares the same opinion in that regard!

I've only played Rise of the Tomb Raider, but I definitely agree.

GTA IV most definitely. Terribly boring game. What do you actually do in that game? You can do everything but you aren't actually doing anything, or that's how it feels. GTA is a jack of all trades but a master of none. The 98 on meta is laughable. Even when trying to be as objective as possible, I'd still dock at least 10 points from that score. Subjectively I'd probably dock 30 points from that. Haven't played V because IV was dumb but, I doubt I'd feel that's a 97 as well.

It really does deserve that 97 for me. I don't like IV, but V is a masterpiece.

Damn. Microsoft and Sony just got pwned.

This year? "Breath of the Wild" hands down. First reason is because of the false praise and it's exemption of scrutiny from critics. Why? Because of the Island Cake theory.

Of all time? Either "Fallout New Vegas" or "Halo 2" (god that campaign was awful, and not a single critic at the time addressed that)

Final fantasy VII...not bad, but not so good either...

the hilarious irony of this is that Final Fantasy VII is one of my all time favorite games...and I still feel it's overrated.

Myst had two things going for it.  The great graphics (at the time) and the puzzle difficulty.  The puzzle difficulty has definitely held up, even if the graphics haven't.  Especially in the second game, Riven.  If you can beat Riven without a walkthrough, it's a massive accomplishment, and very satisfying.

I thought The Witness gave me just enough information to solve the various puzzles to give me that "ah-ha!" moment.  Myst never gave me that feeling in the same way.  Many games people are mentioning here I adore so obviously tastes differ.  I think Myst sold majority of its copies as a tech marvel and there is that niche core audience that could appreciate its greater complexity.  It never had that Super Mario or Doom or Street Fighter effect of changing the landscape with all sorts of copy cats that persist to this day. For a game that sold so much I don't think it has the legacy other massive sellers of the time have had.  Would you put it on your top 100 all time game list? I'm not sure many people would.

I would definitely put Riven (Myst II) on my Top 100, though my favourite (though not best in puzzle solving adventure genre) is still Timelapse - but then again, I've been adventure gamer since Hobbit on ZX back in early 80s, so no surprises there.

As for legacy of Myst and comparing it to Mario, Doom and such - adventure games, especially puzzle solving variety, were always quite a bit more cerebral, expecting them to be compared to mainstream genres would be quite silly.

Pretty much any Halo game

Top 100?  Definitely.  Though I do think Riven is a better game in just about every way, so my enthusiasm could be influenced by the series as a whole.

Myst got its fair share of copycats st the time, though they definitely do not persist to this day. The point and click adventure genre unfortunately lost almost all its popularity a few years later. But it's easy to see where The Witness got its influences from.
