Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4 Won February NPD (PS4: 363K, XBO: 310K, NSW: 279K)

Have you not noticed the trend of almost every publisher re-releasing their past hits on new hardware?

How does that justify it?

Have you not noticed a trend of microtransactions?

Have you not noticed a trend of broken games?

Have you not noticed a trend of poorly implemented online in Nintendo games?

etc etc etc ... doesn't mean anything.

Besides this is a gross oversimplification of things. When people write comments like this it's an intellectually lazy way of trying to cut out what makes people not like ports. It's not the act of just putting a game on one system. It's the fact that it's coming from a console holder who is using it as a way to excuse a lack of games for a certain period of time. But let's just forget about that convenient fact ....

Age doesn't matter much until the next generation really starts to hit.

After 4 years the PS4 is at around 25 Million units in America as the generation leader. The 360 and Wii both managed to hit close to 50 Million, the PS2 and DS managed to sit pretty around ~55 Million. The PS4 has the potential to at least double what it's already done.

In terms of age, the PS4 isn't that old. Wait until y'all see what it does at $250 and $199.

For more context, here are the numbers for seventh generation consoles in their respective fifth February:

DS - 588k
PSP - 133k
360 - 422k
PS3 - 403k
Wii - 455k

Wrong.

5th february.

PS3 = 360
Wii = 228
360 = 352

I literally said ps4 would win in the prediction thread and was called out for it. MHW did exactly what I thought it would do. Although I didn't expect xb1 to outsell Switch.

PS4 is gonna win march as well, it  out sold switch by 30%, thats like 90k. people need to understand switch just doesn't have enough third party support to keep momentum.

That is not the problem. There was no big game on the horizon for the entire year and no big title came out after december 1st to March 16th.

It is surprising it kept selling that well tbh. Switch will probably outsell the PS4 in it's second year which is a more interesting comparaison.

Good first February for the Switch. Mess at some people acting like if it's doing 66k or something like that

Monster Hunter World, its power. Capcom truly did THAT.

Agreed. Some people jump to crazy conclusions without taking figures like the above into consideration. That’s the problem with letting pesky facts get in the way.

MK8D wasn't a lazy stop-gap port to everyone.

Good thing Ka-Pi was asking for my opinion  then.

It is just the switch version of the game.

It is like gta5 on ps4. You don't want gta5 to succeed on ps4?

False equivalence and you know it.

8 million is good but take a look at the previous 3 Mario Kart titles.

Mario Kart DS (2005)-23.60 million

Mario Kart Wii (2008)-37.02 million

Mario Kart 7 (2011)-16.76 million

Mario Kart 8 (2014)-8.40 million

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (2017)-7.33 million

It sold well but much less than it should have, the fact that its updated port is going to outsell the original in less than a year is proof of that.

That doesn't matter. If we look at it that way then every game should be ported because it has a chance of outselling the original (and even if it doesn't outsell it it's still adding profit).  I think it's very funny how people don't care about the logic behind business decisions until the subject is Switch ports, by the way.

You bias is showing glaringly!

So you just don't want Switch ports to do well, whereas you are fine with games on other systems getting ported from the previous gen to current gen.

And did you really just try to argue the business logic of releasing Mario Kart on the Switch??? hahaha. Let me give you a little insight into business decisions. Business decisions are made to make money. Mario Kart being released on a 13 million sold system that got cut off early to release a new system means that it didn't come anywhere near maximizing the profit potential for Nintendo. Hence, business logic dictates they can quickly port if to their new system and many many more people can play it than played the original. The business logic behind this is the exact same as every port thats ever been done: reach a larger audience for a game that's already been made in order to make more money off that game.

I think it's very funny how you care about business logic behind business decisions until the subject is Switch ports.

The post i quoted from you was mocking a user for saying MK8 was wasted on Wii U. I provided sales of past entries to show how it was in fact wasted on Wii U.

Everything you have said since is irrelevant.
