Where are people getting this idea that Sony has made a tonne of cost reductions and that Microsoft has been stagnant?starcraft said:
Sony's per unit manufacturing cost has been cut in half in 14 months. IBM and Toshiba have already taken both the RSX and Cell to 65nm and are actively moving toward 45nm. And while IBM finally got the Xenon to 65nm, TSMC will not have a 65nm Xenos in production until August 2008, probably around the same time as the Cell and RSX are moving to 45nm.
This is well documented by the companies working on the respective components and has been well reported by industry news. Maybe that's where people are getting the idea?

THAT is complete crap. Where your getting that information is from an iSupply report that has NOTHING to do with Sony. The same company declared Microsoft to be much cheaper than the PS3 to produce quite some time ago.

No, it's from statements released by both IBM and Toshiba. Even someone with exceptionally weak Google-fu can verify that. Thanks for the attempt to put words in my mouth, but, unfortunately you're completely wrong both on the information and on the source.
If Sony does drop the price again this year, especially by $100, you will see a huge surge in consoles moved, but you will also see Sony throttled into the red it's not funny. Sony couldn't afford the price cut they did - and to think they are printing money now and can handle another one. Sorry, I just can't see that happening.
Even with the RROD, the 360 has been profitable for a while now, and MS is still selling consoles, is just getting beat by like 40-50K a week ... and they can afford to drop the core to $199 U.S. easily. Will they make money? You bet. They can go lower a lot faster than Sony can this time around.

Ok, based on your own words you're either completely inept when it comes to "Google-fu" or you've just contradicted yourself.
