Forums - Nintendo - New DS model to be unveiled at E3?

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=186775

Hirokazu Hamamura, the president of Famitsu parent company Enterbrain, has hinted that there's a chance Nintendo will reveal a new iteration of the DS at E3.

What's more interesting is that according to a translation made by website Akayuki, Nintendo spokesman Hiroshi Yasushi did not deny this rumour, but told Famitsu that the company cannot comment at this point.

To be honest, given Nintendo's current state of mind we can't even imagine what madness could be part of a third-iteration of the DS. Even a smell sensor wouldn't shock us that much at this point. Your own thoughts below.

I dont find it suprisng since the Game Boy had the most resdesgines, Play it LOUD, Game Boy Light, Game Boy Pocket.

I'd be surprised if we didn't see new a new DS and a new PSP at E3.

It'll be four years of release in December for both systems, and they have to have something put together by now. I'm almost positive we'll see concept models, and concept specs. of both, since its been so long. And the first information we got on PSP was 1 year before launch, so if something comes out this year info wise, then that means in 2009 fall, we'll see the new models of PSP and DS, which would make a five-year life-cycle. If we don't see anything at E3, or before the end of the year, I will be truly appalled.

mmm, there is too many posibilities for the new design, but all of those must be out the game scenario, if not the DS will become a new console. Probably a GPS, cellphone capabilities, a media player, less weight, bigger screen... who knows. I am only guessing.

 However,

gameboy 1989
play it loud 1995
pocket 1996
light 1997
Color 1998  9 years
GBA 2001  3 years (or 12 if you don’t count color as a new model)
SP 2003
Micro 2005
DS 2004  3 years
DS Light 2006

If you look, you'll see the GBA lived the shortest lifetime, and was mostly the DS replaced it even though Nintendo didn't originally intend to. I would not be shocked if the DS lasts another 3 years giving it a 7 year span. The only thing I think they should change in a redesign is improve weight, battery life, and screen quality.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

@ nordlead

I was moreso speaking about the PSP, not the DS. I know nintendo doesn't like to make new systems that often, but I feel like Sony will, just to get the upper hand.

I don't mean to be critical, but I honestly think that Nintendo's next hand held if announced at this years E3 will not have the power to out do the PSP, I mean graphicaly and such, though I doubt Nintendo will announce a new hand held if at all they'll announce a new slimer model, some akin to the Micro GBA.

I've been saying it since last year: the DS2 has been in development for a good while.

I had actually guessed it was going to be unveiled at the end of last year so that Halo DS could be announced (have very good reason it's still in development) along with Master Chief in SSBB but I was way off on that one. Still though, the DS2 has been in development for a while and games have been in development for it for quite a while.

Unlikely. Most likely scenario involves a DS-Super-Lite revealed at TGS this year.

DS sales are still great
and Nintendo is always working on something
