PC and console software generated $517 million, up 51% year-on-year

Overall

1. Monster Hunter: World (All time launch-month high)
2. Dragon Ball: Fighterz (Highest DB release since DBZ: Budokai)
3. Call of Duty: WWII
4. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds*
5. Grand Theft Auto V
6. NBA 2K18
7. Super Mario Odyssey**
8. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild**
9. Mario Kart 8**
10. Madden NFL 18
11. Star Wars: Battlefront II*
12. Assassin’s Creed: Origins
13. UFC 3
14. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege
15. FIFA 18*
16. Dragon Ball: Xenoverse
17. The Sims 4*
18. Splatoon 2**
19. Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT
20. Need for Speed: Payback*

How the fuck did that happen? It aint even Xenoverse 2 but Xenoverse 1.

Was hype for FighterZ so strong that it caused Xenoverse 1 to have a spike in sales?

Interestingly some of the people here who said switch won even though ps4 had monster hunter world are the same people who predicted monster hunter world would flop and only sell 2m lifetime world wide. Besides mhw, no other monster hunter game had sold more than 800k in north America. And don't forget mhw isn't even exclusive to ps4

Ummm......what does this have to do with anything?

I said Switch wont be down YOY in Japan and you bring up how well 3DS did in 2012?

Edit: and why would Spring/Summer be worse? Jan/Feb had very few releases while Spring has a pretty steady flow of new releases coming and we know next to nothing about the summer lineup yet. The things you say are based on delusions.

No, the 3DS is nearly gaining a 2x advantage in hardware sales in Japan compared to the Switch at the start of their 2nd year. You say the Switch has a steady flow of new releases for this Spring but the only notable new release is LABO and Mario Tennis Aces (this has no solid date or month) but let's also not pretend that the 3DS won't be able to more than keep up with it's own notable new releases (KI: Uprising, KH:3D, FE:A, Mario Tennis, Brain Age, NSMB2) during a similar timeframe in this period ... (BTW their Mini Direct did cover games up to the summer season such as Ys VIII, SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy and possible even TWEWY Final Remix)

My main argument wasn't even about the Switch possibly being down YOY, it's that it'll keep falling behind the 3DS in Japan and that NA/EU will need to make up the difference ...

Competitive in the US as always. But anyways having a "Best Jan NPD since/ever" doesn't matter since you know 5 weeks vs 4 weeks. But it does help with HW sales.

Speaking of 5 weeks, what are the days tracked? Was it part of December or February?

Part of February.

It seems it includes Dec 31 as well.

It's actually pretty interesting that some January's don't include New Years day. For example a very poor January (2016) is Jan 3-31. No surprise that the December 2015 was one of the strongest...

* Great month to all platforms.... minus the living dead.

* Alkbideas pretends "Street Fighter V Arcade Edition" is a system seller but nobody calls him out because he ain't Quickrick!

* To Amazon warriors (and I'm not one), the moral victory seems to go to Xbox after a very misleading Switch domination on Amazon. PS4 comes second because it should have had the higher benefit from MHW and DBFZ. Though this assumes the sales difference to be marginal as implied (20-50~k)

* Some users excused the minor hardware boost for Switch Octobor numbers saying "Odyssey came at the month's end"... When did MHW and DBZF release again? and are they exclusive?

* Pretty bad results for Skyrim, Xenoblade, and Doom (below Pokken)

DBFZ and Monster hunter both got 9 days, since the tracking period ended february 3rd.

Odyssey only got 2 days because the tracking period ended october 28.

The former games got more than four times the number of days this month than odyssey got in october.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

On Era, Matt said it was something with Steam (bottom of the post)

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

What the hell are you talking about, 3DS has nothing to do with what we are talking about.

You said Switch would be down YOY in Japan, i said it wouldnt and you brought up 3DS sales in 2012.

That is 100% irrelevent.

Yes it has a steady flow of games in Spring.

Dragon Quest Builders, Kirby, Hyrule Warriors, Attack on Titan, Labo Variety, Labo Robot, Tropical Freeze, Dark Souls, Mario Tennis and some others small titles im forgetting.

Like I said, we know next to nothing abouy Summer releases. You listed 2 small 3rd party titles, obviously they have much than that coming.

DQB, Kirby and neither does AOT launch in Spring ...

No offense but what the fuck are people comparing 3DS first January to Switch?

3DS first January - 160,000 (also highest January it ever had)
Switch first January - 300-350K?

Even if that's a 5 weeks month and we cut Switch sales to 4 weeks (240-280K) 3DS get destroyed anyway.

Not true, 3DS's first January was 233K in the US ... (we never got a number from NPD so vgc kept making adjustments inline with statement)

We also don't know if the Switch did 300K+ either since the total factors in SNES mini and 3DS ...
