Forums - Sony - PS3 GTAIV install only 3mb says display box

lol, just in case people missed it the first hundred times:

it's not a 3mb install, it's the minimum needed to save you progress. this means that will be NO install for the ps3 version of gtra 4, otherwise that number would have been far bigger.

somebody mentioned gt:5p saying 250kb on the box but installing 5.5gb. that's because gt:5p is actually a psn title by nature, it was DESIGNED to run off a hdd and not a disc. so in actual fact, the disc is never actually in use when you run gt:5p, it's just to prove that you have the game. all retail psn titles have/will be like that. warhawk is another example. it says 468kb on the box, but it installs 2gb worth of data. after that 2gb of data, you will need 468kb for save data.

but because gta 4 is not a psn title, this just means that 3mb is needed for save data, nothing more, nothing less. all non-psn games that require installs (like dmc4 and r6v2), indicate how much it needs to install as well as the save data space.

my warhawk box says 810mb and thats exactly whatt it uses

where do you get 2gb from as the game is only 800mb and the expansion pack wasn't even 100mb

People have hit this right on the head--I'll bet $100 vg that the Xbox 360 box will say the exact same thing.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

ZOMFG!

THERE IS NO INSTALLATION, JUST THE AMT NEEDED FOR SAVE FILES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow.  DMeisterJ.  Be calm.

I am.

Just that we've been through this like twelve times in this thread.

And when games have mandatory installs, it says it on the back.

And unless 3mb is mandatory to play the game, it's a save file.

Now everyone, let this thread die.

I'm glad there's no mandatory install, not that I mind them, I just don't want to have the same argument for like the 20th time since arriving on this site.

This isn't absolute proof that there's no mandatory install in my eyes, since there could be a difference on the box once it comes out, but at least there probably won't be an install.

Yeah but if you can run the game on 3mb why would you install any more if space was your issue? The mandatory install is 3mb. I'm sure you have a choice for more on both consoles to make the game run smoother.

They said that there are no load times when you move between buildings. Perhaps due to the Blu-Ray discs lower read speed, you have to install it on the HDD in order to acheive no load times?

Yes I am sure this whopping 3MB save file is because of low blu-ray read speeds.

I should have been clearer. I was responding to the numerous posts stating that their probably WILL be a mandatory or optional install, in addition to the 3MB required to save.

i dont think the read speed has anything to do with it. for example uncharted didnt even have an install, and the game played like a movie. if the streaming system is put to good use, then the read speed wouldnt even matter. the install feature is just devs getting lazy, not the blu ray read speed.

well, to be fair, if their lead system gives them the freedom that caused the install for the other system, then you can't blame them. the 360 doesn't have a problem with read speeds, but the fact of the matter is the ps3 does. it's like mgs4, they USED 50gb of data, they never looked at compression or anthing, they just went all out, but if it were out on the 360, they would need to make a work around (multiple discs). if they have the freedom they should use it. the 360 gives them that freedom. laziness isn't an excuse in my opinion.

don't mind starcarft,,he just wants to put PS3 down with false information,,,,

starcarft : FYI,blu ray drive has varying speed,,,Some parts on the disk are abit slower than DVD9 and some parts of the disk are much faster that DVD9.So it depends on how the Dev team uses the bluray disc,,,As you may know there are lots of PS3 games that don't require install and have zero load time from beginig of the game till the end,one the other hand some of the the games do require it.

Also one more good thing about PS3 drive is that compared to Xbox 360 it's mute(no noise).so by all means enjoy that noisy ,disk scartching drive of yours ,,but don't tell half of the stroy to prove a moot point please

They actually clarified that comment, and I think they ended up on a 25GB (single sided disk).  I'm not saying it will happen, but with Microsoft's compression techniques, I'm pretty sure you could fit that on a DVD9.
