Forums - Politics - School Shooting in South Florida

I was on a cruise last week and met a guy that was an american retired police officer that used to work in schools. At first I was very surprised to know that schools have policemen inside them but when I hear about these news it makes sense.

I actually think it isn't just about gun control, it's like a gun culture and that's a bigger problem.

The NRA profits by keeping people scared.  They bank roll the politicians and if you want to make a sound logical law like banning killing machines,  they attack you as someone trying to make them unsafe even though  your intention is the exact opposite. It presents  a situation where prohibition will probably happen  because we can't even make normal decisions banning high powered guns. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.  What mental blockage in people minds thinks them makes it has to be like this?

Not sure if this was posted but here is footage from on of the classrooms during the shooting:

New York has security guards in most schools. I'm actually surprised some schools don't have guards.

After hearing this tragic event, I will never complain about my old high school having metal detectors.

Medi, I too would love to see a violence free world..But that hope is not realistic.  There is no utopia on planet Earth.  I live in the US, and all I can tell you is that , in my opinion, Americans will not sacrifice their 2nd amendment rights. For better or worse...

Yes. Nothing would make me happier than a world free of violence. But, if we took away the guns and knives, people would kill each other with stones. That said, the regulation of instruments that make it much easier to kill many and much quicker is a very good thing. No one is going to kill 30 people in two minutes with a small rock.

People always ignore this argument.

I've honestly had people try to argue to me that it's pointless to regulate guns more because "people will just kill each other with stones." This is true; it's human nature. But, unless people are going to go to the effort to design and construct a trebuchet to launch massive boulders, they aren't going to be nearly as effective and detached as with a bullet. Bludgeoning someone to death is a lot harder, especially if they know you're trying to hit them, than aiming a gun and firing.

The 13th school shooting of the year? And people still won't stop and think that there is a real problem here with guns. Just basically, if other countries don't have this problem and we do, it means we are doing something wrong. All of this political crap is stupid. SOMETHING IS WRONG.

When 5 years ago, my english teacher said Americans are dumb...... I can see it now. No offence to anyone here. Just speaking how it got to this without no actions.

No gore.  It's okay to watch but its not good either.  Just kids trying to hide while they hear gunshots close by.

It has nothing to do with americans intelligence. 90% of NRA members want stricter gun laws. And thats actual gun owners! It has more to do with the political elite. Like really ... very few people actually want to keep things the way they are

Actually, I guess the fact that we stick so closely to amendments is dumb. But again thats more propoganda controlling a minority
