New suggestions that Resident Evil 5 features racist imagery have emerged.

Newsweek games writer N'Gai Croal has hit out at the E3 2007 trailer for the game in an interview with MTV Multiplayer, stating, "Wow, clearly no one black worked on this game."

He continued, "It's like when you engage that kind of imagery you have to be careful with it. It would be like saying you were going to do some sort of zombie movie that appeared to be set in Europe in the 1940s with skinny, emaciated, Hasidic-looking people.

"If you put up that imagery people would be saying, 'Are you crazy?' Well, that's what this stuff looks like. This imagery has a history. It has a history and you can't pretend otherwise.

"That imagery still has a history that has to be engaged, that has to be understood. If you're going to engage imagery that has that potential, the onus is on the creator to be aware of that because there will be repercussions in the marketplace."

Well, who am I to counter N'Gai Croal on this?

If more African Americans feel this way this could become quite a debate.
But the story makes sense though, since it is on Haiti, the island of Voodoo and zombies (no kidding, there are numerous stories of real zombies, created by Voodoo priests on Haiti).

Let's see how this ends.
If it is considered racism than it will probably get an AO rating.

Nigga what? That's just Ludacris!

Ridicules

Well I don't remember complaints of racism when GTA3 San Andreas came out :) And I killed EVERY race ^_^

Thanks to all these racism complaints, capcoms going to throw in a bunch of minorities that just don't fit in :P I don't get what's so hard to grasp xD How long have we been killing white people? LOL

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

Heh, I wonder what Yahtzee would have to say about this. He had a couple of things to say about Uncharted's white hero's and multi-racial enemies.

No it wouldn't. That would only be a fair comparison if RE5 was set in the 18th century and you played a white slave trader that shot black zombie slaves. Even then it would be a stretch.

As it is, his statement is not only idiotic, but quite possibly offensive.

Well in that case I feel offended that in all the other resident evils have mainly involved killing white people.

i hate it when people bring stuff like this up, i mean he is being hyper sensitive and has no idea what he is talking about.

i was born in africa (i am mixed race however, 3 quarters black and quarter lebanese), in one of the poorest areas you'll ever see, and i dnt find nothing wrong with this material what so ever. fine he is shooting black people in the game, but look where the location is set! i didn't see white people complain about any other resident evil when they were released. to be honest i think its more offensive when theres NO black people in a game. this guy obviously hasn't done hes research and should think before he makes stupid claims like these, he is being a little too afrocentric (and my money is is that he has never even been to africa).

but what he said on gears was right tho, i'll give him credit for that, i dnt really like stereotyping in games, even if i do find it funny!

They should just throw in some occasional white and asian zombies in the game.... that way, they really won't be racist.
