Yuji Naka, the former head of the Sonic Team and lead programmer of the original Sonic the Hedgehog games for Sega Genesis, joined Square Enix in January, he announced on Twitter.

“Just a quick note to let you know, I joined Square Enix in January,” Naka said. “I’m joining game development as before, and strive to develop games at Square Enix. I aim to develop an enjoyable game, please look forward to it.”

After leaving Sonic Team in 2006, Naka founded Prope, a company that went on to develop several titles, including Ivy the Kiwi?Fishing ResortDigimon Adventure, and Rodea the Sky Soldier. Naka did not announce whether his joining Square Enix will affect Prope.

I am excited and shocked at the same time. What the hell is he going to bring to SE? A Phantasy Star clone!?

This could be interesting.

Yes it could!

What is this guy going to do? I highly doubt that hes working on more character based platformers, but really, that is all he is known for.  Outside of that he programmed Phantasy Star. Yuji Naka could have a major chance at a revival of his name though

Baba from Tales is also at SE. No need to make some secret guess.

But that is not surprising. An RPG producer running to an RPG company? Sound rights to me.

Qualifies for "gaming news of the day".
Wonder what comes of this.

And Yuji Naka was programmer on Phantasy Star.

Naka was a master programmer for his time. He programmed A LOT of SEGA games. One of them being Phantasy Star does not mean he' s perefct for an RPG company. I dont why you are continuing this quote tree ? If you arent surprised then fine, but it is so for everybody else so let us be.

"Square Enix Hires Sonic the Hedgehog Creator Yuji Naka"

They may have ruined the game for you...

Your are correct. I better update.

These legendary game creators look like to young... like on the heydays of the 90's they were still teenagers.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Naka is a talented individual that was being wasted. He always made enjoyable games, so i'm looking forward to see what it is he does. Sadly, it does mean he is off the table to save Sonic/Sonic team.

This could be interesting.. wonder what will come out of this
