He actually has a point.

Switch can run PS4/Xb1 games that run 1080/60 fps, and do it at lowe resolutions and 30fps.
Other more typical games, the switch just doesnt run at all, its only the less demanding ones where they can cut fps, that they port.

By the time PS5/XB2 comes out, getting ports will be a HUGE issue for the switch.
That could limit its lifetime as he said, by then you ll have a Switch 2 ready.

Basically switch probably wont have a long life ahead of it, it ll get a updated model... a Switch 2.0, thats backwards compatable.... and able to handle certain ports of the PS5/XB2.

You are posting in a thread where it has been seemingly confirmed that the 3DS sold ~750k units.

And how many home console ports does the 3DS get from the PS4?

It doesnt get any.... its not a home console, the Switch is.

Maybe your right though, maybe the switch can sell without any 3rd party ports, if Nintendo sells enough of them, for 3rd party to make games specifically for it alone. Im just not expecting things to go that way.

PS4 struggling to run BB and The last Guardian on levels far worst than Botw on Switch is apparently not an argument, I don't see it being a problem for Switch either.

That's in regard of if the new consoles are extremely successful and that the Switch drop like a rock and games don't sell on it.

But in a world where the Switch games are selling extremely well, if the install base keep growing we will be seeing more and more exclusives. The 3DS had amazing third party support even being a 240p because games were selling well on it. The Switch doesn't need call of duty to be a major success and with companies like Square Enix, Namco, Ubisoft, Capcom that are most likely going to make exclusives for it follow the amazing sales of their games, i'm pretty sure it will be able to live on it's own. When you also count in that next gen will probably be real 4K, games will be so expensive to make and devs will would find profits by making moderate cost games on a successful system and also taking the risk on the new consoles.

Nothing can stop Nintendo from making a Switch plus.

The switch can run ps4 games with the same framerate, downgrades are only required in resolution and graphics. There are no games that wouldn't run at all on the switch. When ps5 arrives in 2019, most of it's games will be cross gen early on and the switch won't have any problem getting those. By the time more games start taking advantage os ps5 power, it will be 2021 already and the switch successor will release.

Switch won't be getting any 2.0 model as you describe,  only a proper successor.

For the topic, x1 sales are 60% from US so not much of a surprise it got second place.

I can't stand Greenberg: he always trumps up a bunch of spin.

It's so annoying; I'll just wait for Nintendo, Sony, or NPD to announce something.

Ryng_Tolu posted this on gaf. And I really have to agree. Overall it was a much better year for ps4 then xbox. It increased yoy while xbox declined. 3ds also did decent.

"2017 total sales should be ~5.4M, so not peak year, but still up YOY

XB1 is down YOY compared to 2016, and it most likely also sold less than December 2015 (1,376,000)... 2017 sales should be ~ 4.2/4.3M

But 3DS... DAMN, 3DS! Those sales are HUGE for a 7 years old console after a new generation released"

It makes you wonder what the Switch can do outside its launch year (usually far from peaking) with bundles and big titles for the Holiday season. If Switch can manage to sell 20+ millions in its second year that would be insane. It would maybe not even be it's peak. We have a sale monster in the making.

"What am I, chopped liver?"  - PS4
PS4 actually did 20m this year.... but thinking about Switch maybe doing it next year, is what your wondering about? Also why is it more "insane" to do it in your 2nd year than in your 4th? imo doing so in your 4th year is more impressive than doing it in your 2nd year.

Look at the Wii, it sold really well.... but didnt last long, the same could happend with the switch.

Because doing it in the second year means it will also do it in it's 3rd and maybe 4th years. Wii lasted long and even if it didn't, it doesn't make a difference if it sold 100m over 6 years or 2. The final result is the same, no need for downplaying it.

So.  But it's not as portable as a 3DS.  And there are some games that work better as a 3DS game and not on conventional console hardware.  So some games that do function better on conventional console hardware end up on the Switch and not the 3DS.  So aesthetically and functionally, JRPGfan is correct.

That's his point 3DS didn't need them to keep on selling it got a load of other games to fill that void, one problem new platforms will have is Japan where the switch is dominating. Japanese developers will not drop and leave out the Switch for new platforms many games will still be Switch/PS4 and for a while.

It is as portable as a 3DS. Most of the time when you travel or go somewhere that you could use a gaming device, you usually have a packet or a bag with you. I never carried my 3DS in my pocket and it's not like the 3DS XL sold less cause it was less portable, it was the last 3D 3DS on the market in America if that says anything.

The thing is, the Switch brings a lot more to the table than the 3DS that was considered as a DS by many people. The amount of consumers that still plays on their DS thinking the 3DS is literally the same would shock you.
