Forums - Nintendo - Which is the Greatest Paper/RPG Mario?

A lot of people will say Super Mario RPG is the best while Super Paper Mario is definitely the worst. I myself liked TTYD the most and feel SMRPG hasn't aged very gracefully, but that's just me. Overall the series is definitely worth a play through, and you can usually find at least one thing to like in each game.

Super Mario RPG is the best in my mind. TTYD and Paper Mario are close seconds. And Super Paper Mario is the worst (but still a good game).

I haven't played Super Mario RPG, but I have every other Mario RPG and I like Paper Mario 1 the best.

Super Mario RPG by quite a bit. The Paper Mario games just didn't have the same level of enjoyability to them.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Super Mario RPG for sure. I remember buying it @ Wal-Mart for $60 back in the day... I haven't played the 2 GC Paper Mario games, but Super Paper Mario is a good game. Takes classical Mario platforming and adds a 3D Element. Throw in a bit of RPG growth and you get the idea.

SMRPG was a pure RPG and a great game.

SMRPG, although that was my first RPG so I may be a bit biased in that regard.

SMRPG >>>> PMTTYD > PM >>>>>>>>>>>> SPM

I've played all of them to some degree (though only a small amount of SMRPG).

My favourite would be Superstar Saga for GBA. It's hands-down the most HILARIOUS game I've ever played, the bros. attacks are cool, and the fighting system is my favourite of any RPG ever.

Then it goes:

2. Paper Mario
3. SMRPG
4. Partners in Time
5. SPM (Found it quite dull, actually)

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

I, the humble outcast, will humbly declare that I like Super Paper Mario. I'm playing it now and find it quite enjoyable. It satisfies the child in me ^_^

I haven't played any other paper marios, but SMRPG was one of the best RPGs the SNES ever had, easily top-3 in a world where we saw the best RPGs of all time.

That's saying alot.

SMRPG made some of the GREATEST advancements in the RPG genre with no random encounters, timed attacks, platforming, good storyline, tons of upgrades, and more secrets than you can shake a stick at.

SMRPG stands out in a world full of stand outs.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
