This is great news. I was so excited for lair then put off by the reviews. I know for sure that I will purchase this game once the patch releases.

Excellent. I saw a copy of the game for €39.99 at my local game shop.
I might pick it up after this patch hits.

Alright. I picked a cheap used one now!
I thought the controls were just part of the problem, i heard the game had retarded mission structure and confusing mission goals with constant cutscenes that caused even more confusion.
Lots of people complained about the FPS, but from all the videos i saw on youtube i never saw a single slowdown. Now mass effect had lots of slowdowns and some textures would take upto 15seconds to load, this can be seen on youtube and nobody ever rated Mass effect down for this. But then again it was not on the PS3.
When I first heard this control patch was in the works, it stimulated interest in this product. I admit that I was greatly swayed by the bad reviews and avoided this game like it were a leper. However, when it was $31.42 on Amazon (obviously because no one was buying it) I took the plunge, so I could find out for myself. The verdict? I LOVE THIS GAME! Yes, the controls are new and require a bit of practice, but they are so refreshing and to me completely revolutionize the way you control a flight sim. Project Aces, take a note of this and make it an option in future releases, please. Do not deny yourself at least a rental of this game and give the original controls a try. You might find yourself pleasantly surprised. The lesson I learned from this is not to put so much faith in another person's review.

I thought the slowdowns were the main reason why gamespot gave mass effect an 8.5.
there's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot

Edit: I misunderstood this post and wrote something completely irrelevant. This has been corrected. It would be nice if there were updated reviews for the game, but I highly doubt this will be happening. The game didn't deserve the bad press it received, but this shouldn't be a factor to hold you back from at least giving the game a try. It's a shame that such bad press can affect sales of great games, while pieces of sh** like 50 Cent: Bulletproof can suck, be reviewed poorly, and still manage to sell millions. Also, such a poor turnout must be discouraging Factor 5 from creating any new IPs for the Sony platform.

I might have to try it out again. I played through Lair, and while it was far short of spectacular, it wasn't too bad. Maybe this will make it better though.
I say this in every Lair thread, but to me the controls were the problem, not the method of control. Warhawk, Motorstorm, Burnout, etc get Sixaxis right, but unless Factor 5 (why is Sony quoted as developing this update, btw? Factor 5 is a third party) changes how the game controls and fixes the targeting system, I'm not sure this patch fixes anything.
I played Lair with analog controls using PSP remote play and that certainly didn't help the situation. If someone tells me they fixed the actual controls instead of just changing the method of play then maybe I'll rent it again. All flight games SHOULD be sixaxis, but it the game just controls bad it doesn't matter how you control it.
Nothing could improve Lair it was a terrible game, end of story.
