Forums - Gaming - Soooo did the Xbox One X succeed?

I think xbox one X did decent enough, but seems to be slowed down a bit.

The thing about PUBG is that its still Timed exclusive. Microsoft sites just recently still said its console launch exclusive (timed). And Microsoft already tried to buy it and failed ,its confirmed by many insiders including mod ZhugeEx on resetera. ZhugeEX has been very reliable so far.

I read in an article several months ago ( I can't find it now) that Andrew House said that the PS5 will happen, but Sony is waiting for 4K TV ownership to reach the appropriate levels. As of now, only a very small population of gamers own 4K TV's. The PS5 will absolutely NOT come out before 2021. The PS4 is still selling incredibly well, releasing the PS5 before those sales stifle or fall off would be a disaster for Sony. Not to mention they're probably only starting on devising design plans in terms of hardware and chassis for the PS5 or will in 2018. Hopefully they can get 16GB of RAM with 8 Teraflops in the PS5, though it'll probably be 12GB of RAM like the One X.

8k is a stupidly long way away. It won't be something we would be considering in the mainstream until probably 2030.

If the PC ain't doing it in the mid-range, it's not going to happen on console.

Actually I think you are partially right 😀.

Most TVs were 1080p in 2012, but latest figures show 4k TVs started dropping in price in 2015/2016 and is being adopted at a faster rate than HD was. So by Xmas 2019 most consumers will be on 4k. Based on that, I think we'll see 8k prices start dropping around 2022 (again faster adoption than 4k) and therefore wider adoption and PS5 released by 2025 😀.

Unless TV sizes further grow, 8K is overkill. On 50'' displays almost no one will see a difference between 4K and 8K and even 60'' - 70'' displays will have diminishing returns in 8K.

And not many people will have the space to set up a 100''+ display. so I really doubt that 8K displays will have a fast adoption.

I just had another crazy thought. Maybe either Microsoft or Sony will release the first quantum based console in 2025❗Probably Sony as they are happier to take risks, like the PS3. A quantum console would definitely have the power to push around 8k resolutions at a decent frame rate. Question is what other bandwidth issues would they face? GPU Memory for 8k and above would need to be in 64-128GB, possibly.
Anyway it would certainly make things interesting 😀. I think I'll send Cerney and Yoshi a tweet to plant the seed 😜😂

I really just don't understand who would need this console?

I'm sure the initial sales are fine for diehard Xbox fans...but will this sell beyond the initial release? Who knows.

People who game on consoles and want to play the most popular games the best way possible by a significant amount.

I think you are seriously underestimating the power of 3rd party games.

I agree. This year NPD it was either Switch or PS4. I am not sure X will make any difference next year as well. They need some big games.

It's not Third Party games I'm doubting, it's the significance of the console update.

Is the game experience really that different? Is it going to completely make that game a entirely different play? For $500 console update, all amazon says about the product are "games play better?" But significantly better that someone would actually notice without being told? I honestly don't think so.
