I dont know.I think that some reviewers are taking away points for silly reasons(my opinion of course), like the gamespot review seems to suggest. As long as Xenoblade is Xenoblade, and people that are not fond of japanese quirks are reviewing it, XC games will never reach that high again.

Exactly. I still don't get why a lot of reviewers are taking away points for being too japanese, and Persona 5, which is the most japanese a game can get, still had a lot of praise going. It's an awesome game so I won't complain, but I always felt that the Xeno franchise in general was always pretty underrated. Well, almost any Monolith game. And I'm pretty sure that the fact that a game like FFXV has a 80+score too, is because it tones down "japanese things". I mean, that game wasn't good to begin with.

The reason why Persona 5 dosent get too much heat over this is because its not as japanese as XC 2.First, the art style is much more appealing, at least I do prefer that artstyle(and look that I already like XC 2 overall design). But the other reason is that it dosent have as many japanese quirks as this game.It surely does have some of these moments, like when you are caught cheating if you decide to date more than one girl, but other than that is pretty mild and very few in number.

XC 2 on the other hand has a much bigger number of those moments to be found in the game, at least going off the trailers and reviews, and some reviewers find that stupid for some reason.I mean, its fair if you think that diminishes the game, but it gets to a point(going back to the gamespot review) that there wasnt even one paragraph that didnt have one negative aspect because that scene had a nopon on it, or that story moment was soooooo cliched(as if the game had to have an original moment every hour of the game), or that it had some quirk to it.Looking at the overall review, it makes me wonder why the hell did he even review the game. Its like putting someone who dosent like the type of genre to review the game.Hell, if I had to review GTA V, I would give that game a 5 or maybe a 6.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Yea there are hints of hypocrisy when it comes to Japanese games being...Japanese. It’s almost as if Japan/Asia reviews a Western game and criticizes it for being Westernized. I’m glad XB2 is appearing to be another stellar game for the Switch’s first year lineup but I am a bit peeved reading reviews that complain about being too Japanese. I’m sure Tokyo Mirage Sessions had its share of complaints of being too Japanese when it was already the point of the game.

Gamexplain gave it a Loved it, which I assume its a perfect score for them(I hate when there is no number XD)

I dunno, I really loved Persona 5, but I'd say that it's plenty of moments which feel too overly anime and japanese. Which I love, by the way, but it was a franchise which always got a free pass for that imho. But, well, that's just interpretation, you might be right, it's just my impression of the game.

And, yeah, that's a constant in Gamespot. Like that time when they put a reviewer who obviously didn't know anything about 2D platformers to review DK:Tropical Freeze. Maybe they have a philosophy like: every reviewer could review well every kind of game. But, not, that doesn't happen. I'd assume that if the reviewer isn't comfortable with japanese quirks and tropes, he couldn't review a heavy japanese game well.

It is, in fact, I'm listening the review and the guy pretty much says that it's better than the original in a lot of ways. And, for me, Gamexplain is the reference in Nintendo games reviews nowadays.

I said that I assumed it was the best score, because the only other score that might have been bigger is the Odyssey review score, which was mindblown. So I was kinda scratching my head there, but I guess Odyssey is an exception.

Off recent memory, Super Mario Odyssey got a "Blown away" or something, so guessing that is perfect.

Zelda Breath of the Wild I believe only got a "liked it"

Who reviewed it?

Odyssey was the first mind blown score anyone from GX ever gave a game. Usually it’s dislike to love it for them.

Updated. Sorry about the absence.
