Forums - Gaming - Now Loading: Would You Rather Buy a Xbox One X or PS4 Pro?

Eh, I'm probably going to buy some more games, wait to see if PS5 has physical BC and, if it doesn't, I'll buy a 1 TB PS4 Slim.

Well... i got a Pro as it came out (because of a trade in promotion), so that's my decision.

But quite honestly, looking at the software in offer, it's also the only choice (for me).

Indeed, moderators are able to post things in mod chat and ask a user to expand on their comment in the meantime. Our power is great, our wisdom boundless, and our knowledge of changes in user image quality preferences kept sealed in the under-forum vaults.

I'm sure you're still referring to me with that last part, but rest assured, no changes in preference regarding resolution here, friend. Scorpio is about a lot more than true 4k, don't fall for the PR :) Either way, I'm glad you at least have an idea about what you think my opinion is, even if it's misguided. That's better than the adorable fishing you used to do in every single Scorpio thread lol.

So you don't care about resolution at all, but you're not apathetic, native super sampling (a lower quality application of resolution) is "yowza", but there's been no change of preference? I feel like any confusion on my end is fairly well justified at this point.

As ironic as your accusation is, I'd be curious to see some examples ^^ As far as i'm aware I've always been quite positive about about the X1X, if perhaps a bit more realistic than some (far be it with an initial expectation of a $450 price tag). More so than the Pro at least.

Yeah, I said yowza @ standard supported super sampling, because that’s great tech. I also followed that sentence by saying SS was not a big draw for me, but feel free to continue ignoring that to benefit your agenda/argument. My only advice for you here is to learn to apply context to discussions. That and maybe common sense. If I say I don’t care about resolution when it comes to something like a discussion about a 1080p game versus a 900p game, that doesn’t mean I don’t care about resolution at all. I don’t care about resolution in that scenario, but at the same time if the Scorpio had a max resolution of 480p, that would be an issue for me :)

And no, there’s been no change of “preference”. I still prefer frame rate and things like draw distance, effects, textures, etc over resolution. Thankfully the Scorpio improves everything. Of course, you’re also talking to someone who prefers the Xbox controller, network, and Ui, so naturally I am going to be a lot more excited for an upgrade to that platform as opposed to one I own but barely use, like the PS4. And lastly, coming from the launch Xbone, the Scorpio simply represents a much larger power jump than I would get going from my PS4 to a Pro. Obviously because the Xbone is weaker than the PS4, and the Scorpio is more powerful than the Pro.

lol @ accusation. I would call it more of an observation. I just laughed then all off and ignored them.

It's fun to compare and choose a winner but both consoles really are just love letters to their respective fanbase...if one were to pay for love letters.

If you love PlayStation (like me!), you have an option for a top of the line PlayStation. If you love Xbox (also like me!), you have the option for a supercharged Xbox. That's really it. Nobody is going to jump ship.

I'm aware of the follow on, but given the discussion i thought it an amusing inclusion.

Hmm, good point. I wasn't previously aware that context and common sense exist, so let's have a go with those: The thread in question was asking users if 720p was acceptable to them. You replied, and this is a full and exact quote:

LudicrousSpeed said:
Could not care less about resolution. If I did, I'd game on my PC more where everything can be 1080p+ in resolution and 60fps+. My most played game this gen with almost 700 hours is Titanfall... I couldn't tell you its resolution.

This was your first comment in the thread and it was unprompted, so there's no need to worry about the context of an ongoing discussion. From the topic we can immediately say that your lack of care for resolution is already present by 720p, and you then double down on that by extending the range of your lack of care to not only 1080p but resolutions past it. The 'past it' range isn't specifically defined (though i can think of only 2 reasonable end points), so it's possible that you might have a point where you suddenly start valuing an increase in pixels, but it'd have to be quite arbitrary (and by extension confusing) given the size of the jump this comment already directly values at zero. You then highlight the earnestness of your position with your TF example (it's 792p/40-60fps btw, if you happen to now be curious), which is helpful.

Maybe you actually do care about resolution and just very (veeery) poorly articulated yourself here, we're all occasionally guilty of that, but to quote you again from later in that same thread:

I can't read your mind unfortunately, I can only base responses off what you have posted.

So given the discrepancies in "what you have posted", i once again conclude that my confusion is justified.

As a side note, i appreciate the variety of your 'observations'. Normally people just opt for one and stick with it, but so far we've hit on my mass investment in the fishing industry, my lack of common sense, inability to judge context, my devious agenda pushing, and my loltastic moderation style. I'm rarely painted as such a colourful figure

Edit: 'that you lack of..' -> 'that your lack of..'

You do need to worry about common sense though :)

I’ve said several times I care more about frame rate and other stuff than resolution. Your confusion is certainly not surprising, but certainly not justified either. There does exist a situation where someone can both not prioritize resolution, and yet also be happy when his platform of choice can pump out higher resolution graphics. Particularly when, again as I’ve said before, the improvements are much more than plain old resolution. This is common sense, yet just like earlier with the super sampling comment, you ignore what doesn’t mold your agenda :)

Honestly, Xbox One X because I already own a regular PS4 and I'd much rather get a console I don't already own over an incremental upgrade of one I do own

The Xbox brand currently has only 4 exclusive IP I have any interest in and with that low number, there's no way I could purchase an Xbox platform. the PlayStation 4 so far every exclusive I want, the Nintendo switch so far every exclusive I want it's cut-and-dry really.

If my confusion isn't justified, explain why. There's no need to deflect to my supposed agenda again, everything in my last comment has been linearly and literally presented to you. Your quote is there in full, context has been provided, and each element broken down. Why can't it be read how its written, especially when it reaffirms itself twice? After all, "I can only base responses off what you have posted".
