Forums - Gaming - Housemarque moving on to less niche genres

I mean, they're right in a way, I know people that just see their games and think "This'll be free on Playstation Plus soon" or that they should be free anyway, because nobody wants to pay for the arcade experience anymore, they want bigger games.

However, this COULD be a good thing, we know they're great at making those extremely well polished games, they have the visuals and performance on lockdown, just imagine them on a bigger scale, or if they went into a whole other genre, but kept the style they're known for... personally I'd love to see a third person shooter like Vanquish or a racing game like WipEout from them.

bring they to A or AA standard to see if they can still shine. We still have somewhat of a gap between "indie" and AAA on the market.

Heavily discounting games or giving them away for free isn't a good long term business plan?

Gasp, who'd have thought. /s

No reason why an indie developer should limit himself to one console manufacturer either.

You do know that Sony pay for the PSN+ to be given "for free" right?

Not enough, apparently, otherwise Housmarque wouldn't have made the statement they gave.

Because they can't look for higher profits right?

READ THEIR STATEMENT.

Read it. And do you want to explain what does it mean besides:

"Only the free offerings (doesn't mention all) can't pay for all we develop"??

I'd like to reply to this but I honestly don't know what this is supposed to mean o.O

As for the gap between indie and AAA, it's getting smaller and smaller in my opinion, I'm seeing indie games that are more polished, look and play better better than AAA titles, the only difference is the pricetag, or they're digital only...

I would say you are exaggerating a bit. There are quite good indie games, but they don't get even near AAA for me.

But sure the tools are there to close the gap and allow some indies to get to A and AA level.

Yep, take Hollow Knight for example, it was made by two people yet it looks better than the majority of 2D games out there, including those of Nintendo. And it doesn't lack in content either (50+ hours campaign).

It really looks good, but I think you are streaching it.
