it will catch up and overtake one day soon

This will never gonna happen. Only in fanboys dreams...

It's not going to happen soon, but it will happen. Most people want a PS3, they just don't want to pay for it.

Once the price drops, it will outsell the 360 by a long shot.

To people who are about the flame because they say price drops don't sell consoles alone. That's 100% true. It's why the price drop will sell a lot more PS3's then 360's. It's my opinion that the number of people who want a PS3 but are not willing to pay for it is a lot higher than the number of people who want a 360 and are not willing to pay for it.

Drop them both $100, and both of them will sell a lot more, but the PS3 will greatly outsell the 360 in the US.

Opinions:

If the PS3 outsells 360 by 5-10%, are they actually catching up in the gaming market? If you figure that somewhere between 10-15% at least of PS3 buyers are buying for Blu-Ray and will buy very few games and accessories (a small percentage will buy none), what is the effect?

How much does PS3 have towin by in the Americas to really start catching up in overall games sales and the like?

Curious for opinions on this one....

I posted this elsewhere too, but thought it would make an interesting discussion.

Complete BS. Where do you get this figure from? Have you taken surveys? No.

The fact of the matter is the PS3 is no longer cheaper than Blu-ray players and if someone just wanted Blu-ray, they'd save themselves $100 and get a standalone player. Now I'm not saying Blu-ray doesnt push some people to the PS3 but to say that 10-15% of people who get a PS3 solely for the purpose of Blu-ray is ridiculous.

Certainly the amount of people buying just for a BD player will have decreased, but I am sure that there is still a large percentage of people who are buying it because it is a bd player, and then just getting a few games with it, which will keep the attachment ratio lower

""which will keep the attachment ratio lower""

==> what if the current attach rate form some multiplateform games is, sometimes, already higher ?

Time to Work !

Attachment ratio means nothing. Only total sales are important. When a console gets a larger userbase its attachment ratio goes down. When the ps3 catches the 360s world wide sales in a few years its attachment ratio will be low as-well.

In regards to the us. Its a statistical tie atm. The ps3 wont catch up if it only sells at the same rate as the 360.

just stay away from sharp items after mid 2009

I bought a used PS3 for blu-ray only (and the occasional game rental). I enjoyed buying a used one since it cant count twice for them.

I'd say by far when it comes to 360 or PS3, its gonna be 360, ofcourse before there is even that choice there is Wii.
