Forums - Gaming - Jim Sterling: Turning Players Into Payers

I just won't buy full priced games with microtransactions. I could give it a try if they later release a complete edition with expansions and a lot of DLCs included.

Stwike him, Centuwion. Stwike him vewy wuffly! (Pontius Pilate, "Life of Brian")
A fart without stink is like a sky without stars.

It seems like he's focusing on the symptoms, rather than the root of the issues.

Thank God For Jim.

The only one having the courage to say what we all think.

Companies are disgusting. Games are now farther than ever of beeing art and are becoming gambling machines. Utterly disgusting.

I haven't watched the video yet but it looks like the same subject he's been going on about for weeks, now.

You mean the fact that the triple A industry is a hive of scum and villany? Yes, that is still the general topic. He just shares the newest low they have come to, by treating gamers as pinatas and giving difference prices to different people in order to get ALL the money from you. Underlying schemes under schemes exposing children and the vulnerable to disgusting schemes that will incur government action because of lack of regulation and gambling taxation.

Yes, it's that same "boring" topic. Except i don't see how it's that uninteresting as the industry is riding on it and the ride is meant to break sooner or later.

I didn't say it was boring. I can't even give it an educated opinion. It just seems like the same subject he tackled when he complained about NBA 2K18 and a couple of other videos. I just haven't had a chance to watch it, yet.

Simmer down.

I love how your describing the triple a industry as Saturday cartoon villains.

Dynamic Pricing... Perhaps this is the storm before the entire f2p industry blows up. One can only hope.

Please, gamers have no one but themselves to blame.

Publishers will simply go where the money is, and when gamers have set this precedent of games lacking multiplayer not being "complete" then publishers will feel that MP is all that really matters. Hence why we are even getting MP focused games now.

If gamers want this nonsense to stop; then they should put their money in the single player games. Maybe I am just weird, but the only game I play online is Tekken.

This is the side of Jim I approve of - taking these companies to task. And yes, others might be saying "the same thing," but Jim seems to be the only one getting under their skin. Seriously, my hobby is the absolute last place I want to see some soulless corporate 'best practices' bullshit.

I think reviewers should give worse scores for games that abuse this, they must evaluate each games monetization with microtransactions and score lower if they reduce the quality of game. Because review scores do diminish revenue for developers, so they are our last line of defense against this bad microtransactions.

Deus Ex mankind divided I remember died by the hand of this, and I hope other will also.
