Forums - Gaming - Jim Sterling: Turning Players Into Payers

A nice nod to GAF at the end:

The PS5 Exists.

cool video, sick company changing prices to try to wrangle any amount of money out of their users, sure you might be thinking this as the lower end of pricing (I might not pay €5 but it's cool they're offering the item for €2 so I can buy it) but do think also the players who are paying the €5 in that intro video from scientific revenue they are getting increased up to 10 and above for the 5euro item.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

This guy is getting frustrated.

I don't think a large enough part of consumers will ever be "militant" enough to actually hurt the companies doing these money grubbing practices to make them stop. Gamers that dislike these practices, such as myself, are gonna have to make do with not playing those games. There are plenty of good and better games to play instead.

"Turning players into payers" via anti consumer practices = Sickening...

If it gets to the point where you cant play and enjoy the game without.... yeah, thats when you need to "put your money where your mouth is", and boycott these games.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm giving any 60$ game that has microtransactions in it a wiiiiide berth. That being said, I was never much into any of the big cash cow franchises.
I don't like the Cods or GTA or Destiny to begin with, so they don't really loose a sale on me in the sense that my boycotting them wouldn't change the size of their userbase, I guess.

I did perk up for Battlefield 1, though. Give me an interesting premise, good storytelling and fun mechanics and you have my attention. Then, preferrably don't ruin it by shoving glorified gambling, nickel and diming and other stressfull and exploitative money grabbing systems in my face and I might actually buy your game.

Once Nintendo starts pulling this shit I might as well give up on gaming. That adorable gambling bunny on the 3DS was bad enough.

Yawn.

Jim Sterling, yeah no.

Jim Sterling, yeah no.

I haven't watched the video yet but it looks like the same subject he's been going on about for weeks, now.
