"Sony needs to just focus on perfecting six-axis tilt functionality and leave the rest to Nintendo."
Those are my thoughts exactly.
Realistically there are no features that the wii possesses that Sony would want. But Nintendo does have the consumers as far as % goes.
So if either Sony or Microsoft did anything in the territory of "waggle" it would be nothing more than a stunt or a gimmick.
But as the wii has shown us, that is all it really takes.
....yeah, I went there. |
Because price, games, and public perception have absolutely nothing to do with it, and all it really takes to succeed is to have a gimmick. Not only that, but to sell the most software worldwide, you only need create games for your gimmick console, the quality of said games doensn't matter, because all it takes is the gimmick. Lemme tell you something bro. If the PS3 could perform ALCHEMY, it still woulda lost to the Wii, starting at 5 hundred and 99 United States Mint Crisp US dollars. A gimmick is one thing. 650 after tax bucks with narn games in the box is an entirely different thing alltogether. I think you'll agree, after further deliberation. ...and it's not like we all went over to our friends house and saw them playing all those awesome PS3 launch titles, and said "You know, at 715 dollars, I gotta buy me a PS3 and...whatever game they were playing." Nosir. Word of mouth was not with the PS3, and it still isn't, even thought the word of mouth at this point, if finally not blatantly defaming the PS3, like it was all of last year. |
I agree with everything you said. Almost
Wii play and wii sports and mario party and other party games do Exist. The wii was and is marketed and supplied beatifully.
The only thing I disagree with is the way you say " it still woulda lost to the Wii" in the past tense.
But I am sure you are referring to the way the PS3 lost in sales compared to the wii at launch. Which is fine.
I understand that the word gimmick imples a negative short term scheme, but why does it have to.
Can there be such a thing as a great gimmick? One that sells regardless of how well it is actually implemented on a large scale basis. One that has robbed the great Nintendo franchises from becoming anything more than what they were in the last generation. Boy I would love to play the best selling SSBB for the wii, but I already played melee years ago. I would love to play SMG, but they put mario on rails!!, sweet.

I agree with you there. But doesn't that make you sad. Always knowing that video games cannot become more than what they always have been. And thanks largely in part to the successfull wii.... always will be.
I will always want to buy the ferrari in life. But What incentive will Sony have to make the PS4 a ferrari, just as they did for the PS3? None. Thank you Wii.
