Forums - Nintendo - RUMOR - Wii bundles and price cuts heading to Europe…and other things...

Why would they cut the price, unless they wanted to crush Microsoft and Sony that much harder.

This won't happen , because there is no need for it. I would at least wait until sales are half of what they are to even try one of these. It would be such a waste.

Not really a waste from buyer perspective.

I'm talking about from a nintendo perspective. Nintendo wants to sell as many wiis as possible. I would think they would try to increase sales when demand is lower than what it is.

Which is what I was trying to say. If this is true than it would mean to me that they are planning to dramatically increase their production to sell more Wiis. Europe would be a good place to start with a price cut because the strength of the Euro means they will make as much money as they would in the US. So IF they flood the US with production increases they can also flood europe with a price cut+ games and increase market share without suffering much of a drop in profits. The only thing is I do beleive Japan is saturated at this point and since it stabilized I think they woudl need a price cut or at least new color there to elevate sales. Nintendo is too conservative a company to just raise production without a plan to recuperate all costs shortly their after.

I'm personally of the opinion that Nintendo may do 'Something' to lower the price or increase the value of their system in the near future. My main thought is that Nintendo isn't a dumb company, and they understand that it is much easier to maintain a sales level than it is to rebuild those sales after they have fallen.

I don't really expect colours because the demand for various colours is difficult to determine and slight mistakes in supply will give you a large inventory and you will still not have (desireable) consoles on the shelf for consumers. Bundled games are possible, but Nintendo tends to favour older games in bundles over new games ...

If I was Nintendo what I would do to set a price level which was attractive for the next 12 months is sell the Wii, 2 Wiimotes, 2 Nunchucks and Wii Sports for $200.

That's too much of a cut i think .... and besides qith all the production problems they have ... i don't think it's true
maybe new bundles ....

My mind has changed. My strength has not.    Kamahl, Fist of Krosa

Wow if this goes ahead then it will fly off the shelf. Its been quieter in Europe the last couple of months due to the lack of new software. New bundles and new colours. It's right at the right time too as the PS3 is starting to build some momentum.

This doesn't seem so much as a pricecut as a readjustment vs the dollar.

Seems like it would follow the "Try and push sales in europe first cause the dollar sucks." angle.

Other then that I couldn't see how it could be true. They'd be creating new shortages when they already have shortages.

If this is true, it means there will be a huge increase in production, as it doesn't make sense to cut your prices when you're selling so well. Either Nintendo decided to go for Sony and MS's jugular, or this is not true. You decide.

To me, this seems like too big of a cut. 150 € is around $200 after you remove VAT, so this is not just a simple currency adjustment.

Doesn't seem very likely to me. If it's true, it's very bold of Nintendo and we could see Wii sales skyrocketing!

Maybe they already have increased the production due to the end of year and they want it to go off with a bang. We won't know until the rumour is proven true or not. But Nintendo are making a fortune from the Wii so it might be about time to give something back to us(who haven't bought one yet). And I'm sure it would ruffle some feathers at MS and Sony and make them discount their consoles some as well. Nintendo might have just fired the first shot.....

I smell bogus until we hear something different.

However, keep in mind, Nintendo has met demand in Europe, if just barely.

Still, doesn't seem like any time for a price cut, right during MK, Brawl, and Fit releases. The story might have some truth to it, but as its stated there, I can't see it become completely true, and it seems to have most of its facts wrong if it were, like exactly how much the price cut would be. €100 price drop? Well, it's shocking that the Wii is selling for €250 there now, when it's only going for $250 in the US, so I certainly see the need for an adjustment, but if Nintendo did this, it would be for the consumer, and not because it's necessary.

Hmm, I'll have to hear this one from the horses mouth.

I see price drops like get out of jail free cards. No need to use them when your not actually in jail, lol. Save that guy for later.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

The wii is already selling very well, even if nintendo planned a price drop theres no way they will reduce it so dramaticly, if they drop price my guess is it will only be by 20-50 euros

However the easiest way to drop price i think would be to bundle a game at no extra cost, but i dont see them doing any of that until wii's are in big supply worldwide and sales start dropping
