Forums - Nintendo - World of Tanks could be released on Switch, depends on the install base

World of Tanks dev open to bringing the game to Switch, depends on the install base

The action MMO World of Tanks is available on most major platforms. You can find it on PC and almost all current consoles. However, there’s one system that the game has yet to reach – that being Switch of course.

Wargaming doesn’t seem to be against the possibility of releasing its game on Nintendo’s console. Speaking about the chances of a Switch version with GamesTM, senior designer Darold Hig suggested that it all comes down to the install base. If the install base is high enough, then it will make sense for the team to invest in a Switch version.

“Everybody is asking me this question and it’s not like we don’t have a lot of Switches in the office. Because WoT is free-to-play and because we don’t have an ‘in’ on that ecosystem we have to see what the install base is. It has to reach a certain install base before we can include it [in our plans]… the way it works is that, because we aren’t selling a retail product, we do need a large number of players to support the cost of implementing the platform.”

“It’s more just a question of… we have to have an economically viable product. That’s why we have to watch the numbers real closely, and the executive team is always keeping track. Our engineers would spend the time to make [the engine] work. But that’s the thing, we have to make sure that we have enough budget to make sure that they can spend the time to make it work.”

Clearly they didn't read that article about the gold rush on the Switch.

More install base means more consumers sure, but higher install base also usually means more competition.

Want! Gonna pimp out my T34.

I feel like it is deja vu.  Isn't World of Tanks f2p or is it monthly subscription?  I don't care about f2p games.  Wow you spent thousands of dollars and you are better than me.  What a surprise.

Isn't that the one that kept the Nazis out of Russia?

It didn't keep them out but certainly kicked them out.

WoW really don't have competition.

This is the 1st time I have seen the low install base argument. Well that just means that we will get this game whether we want it or not.

Not true in this case, it's not pay to win at all.

While you can buy special tanks, but they don't make you any better, and you need a lot of skill for this game. The gold tanks are actually notably weaker than most other tanks on the same level - their main advantage is that they are much cheaper to repair, netting you more credits or any credits at all if you loose the battle on higher tiers (repairs and ammo get expensive by then). The only other advantages are that you can buy bigger barracks (more crew members, meaning you don't need to swap them out between tanks if you have many of them and the visual customisations (like camo and logos) on your tanks ain't temporary.

In the past, the game also had gold ammo, generally APCR instead or simple AP shots which have a higher penetration, but dtill don't make more damage (with a few exeptions on artillery and the VK 36.01. Now you can buy these with credits, though they are more expensive than normal ammunition

Does their fanbase have any interest in the Switch, did anyone ask for this.

I guess we will see once the Switch has performed well enough to satisfy Wargaming.

Install base isn't going to a problem.
