I and I'm sure others were under the impression it was one rifle.

Eitherway, that was a massive crowd and pistols could have been very deadly as well. They're the leading killers in this country, show a little respect.

Respect for what? Or whom?

Countries like Australia and U.K (both islands by the way) had minimal gun ownership before the bans.

Not true for Australia, 30 years ago gun ownership was very high in Australia, most old Australian families had rural connections and owning a gun was seen as normal for most of us

But since the laws/buy backs/amesty gun ownership per head has plummeted and people are very favourable towards those laws restricing guns

Australians generally dont have the feeling they could be shot when going about their business, and police dont generally use guns, so few gun related deaths from both

Austrailia doesn't seem to have much homicides period.

As I've pointed out before, the US has a lot of homicides even if guns murders are neglected.

I always argue the US doesn't just have a gun problem, there is violence problem in general.

2nd ammendment amirite?! Bang! Bang!

Deplorable. It is self inflicted in a way. A law from centuries ago and many americans refuse to understand that the world changed and it doesn't make sense anymore.

Yep. These same people believe in a book that can be summed up perfectly by your statement as well. Creates issues.

1. Give people a story book filled with promises of an afterlife and intolerance.

2. Give everyone fire arms.

3. ?????

4. Disaster!

Yeah, no profit on this story.

Funny how in the US people condemn politicizing a mass shooting, but when Muslims do it, they can't politicize it enough; and complain that more politicizing hasn't been done; even years later, almost decades later in a certain September case.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Guns are designed purely to take away others freedom. Guns purpose is to give the onwer killing power over others, that's the opposite of freedom.

Our freedom to have guns is actually a self defense thing.

Not quite true - 30 years ago, 75% of households did not own a firearm so it wasn't the norm.

Gun ownership per household was already dropping before the ban and only around 12% of households had a firearm before 1996. That number was 6.2% in 2005.

Here's the catch though - there's now more gun owners than before the ban due to the increase in population:

It was seen as normal to own a gun and a large percentage of the population had them, it did drop a lot over the years, it is now at it's lowest per head of population in modern Australian history

Wasn't what I was talking about. Depending on where you live in the U.S anywhere between 20-60% of households have guns. There are more guns than people in this non-island low population density country. Australia's level of ownership before and after Port Arthur does not compare.

Can we just keep in mind those saying you need these guns to protect you from all the lethal bears in the States there have been 3 fatal bear attacks since September 2014 in the States.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fatal_bear_attacks_in_North_America

This is the 240+th Mass shooting (greater than 4 people shot) in 2017

This is the equivalent of suggesting drinking bleach to stop a nasty stomach bug for your country.

Except the chances of being attacked by a bear is much higher in rural country than being part of a mass shooting. Nobody said anything about being killed by a bear, but if you live in, say Alaska, you are more worried about bears, individual human criminals , and other wildlife, than mass shooters.
