It's time for Nintendo to step up their VC

So Ruler, what do you think about this? What are the pros and cons? What do you predict to come out of this? Do you have a summary of the video for us?

Yeah, this is one of my chief concerns about them shuting down the Wii Shop Channel.
Some games are just going to be lost if you loose your system, too because they're shutting down redownloadability as well, wich sucks.

This isn't happening until 2019 though. So over twelve years after the Wii launches they finally shut down the eshop and people are mad about it?

A damn shame, there are a lot of non Nintendo titles that may be lost after finding some life again. I hope Nintendo is doing this because they are working on a way to have a Switch VC that has all the titles as well, but their recent Archives announcement with Hamster has me terrified that this is them walking away.

Shoot, I wouldn't be surprised if within the upcoming year the Wii U e-shop gets a similar announcement given Nintendo's history to cut and run on failing platforms.

Dude Wii is so damn easy to hack that this makes zero difference to my ability to play these on the Wii

To be honest, if Nintendo actually start doing the Virtual Console for the Switch, I could see most of these games making a comeback. I think Nintendo just didn't really want to bother with licensing most games for the Wii U due to the lack of demand for the Wii U.

licensing doesn't seem simple and could be more of a headache than worth the cost. Especially since some of the VC on Wii were games on consoles outside of Nintendo's portfolio (i.e., Sega Master System, Commodore 64, TurboGrafix, Arcades, etc.). Yes, Neo Geo games are on Switch, but SNK seems more than willing to put those games on the new console anyway. From what I remember, Sega no longer wanted to participate in providing their games on VC during this current gen and preferred to release them on their own accord. Also, there were licenses like TMNT that expired and were removed on VC.

They're removing the ability to redownload too? Not just the storefront?

This is depressing, because the Wii Virtual Console is still one of my most played platforms. I am going to take a wait-and-see approach, because I am expecting Nintendo to announce the Virtual Console for Switch at or before their probable January presentation.

I don't even care if they force me to pay full price to redownload the games on Switch, I just do not want to lose access to these games I love.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
