Forums - General - Angry Joe Review - Star Trek: Discovery

Star Trek Discovery was very good for what it was. Technology was really on point. I like interaction between the captain and number one. We have so much more to see beside those two but I have to say I love Volcun characters and plots. I loved the ship itself. I loved the fact that they are actually explorers. I did like the use of Klingon language. Did I mention the graphics. They are turned up to 10. The girl seemed a little two crazy, but I want to see what she becomes. Its like a really impulsive Spock and that is difference. People made about the Klingon look need to stop. I like the analogy about having to be aggressive against the Klingons too.  I also liked that it was more action based.  I mean I like Star Trek's pace, and I want to see this too.  And yes, I want to see Michelle kick some ass.

I didn't watch the review, but the events of Discovery and Voyager take place more than 100 years apart. If he believed Discovery was 70 years after Voyager then he's off by close to two centuries. No one with even a basic understanding of the universe could make such a mistake.

Discovery takes place before the original series. Voyager is the last show in the Prime timeline. He is about as wrong a possilble. The only series Discovery is after is Enterprise.

Discovery 23rd Century

Voyager 24th Century

70 years after Voyager 25th Century

2371 Voyager - 2256 Discovery = a difference of 115 years.

He said it is 70 years apart, so he is off by 45 years.

Not defending him, but I'm saying it's not a big deal since his error isn't that far from the truth.

No. He said it was 70 years apart in the wrong direction.115+70=185 years

The Klingons have been downgraded to simplistic space bugs - over are the times of Chang, Worf, Gauron, Duras sisters etc. A simple enemy for a simple audience.

The klingons of the old series were modeled on Russia, now it seems they're modeled on NK, we've got to strike first!

Loved it. Glad they kept the Klingons speaking their native language. Best star trek pilot I've seen. Can't wait til the actual Discovery is let loose.

In terms of where the show falls though... it's the wrong end of the timeline, it would be like someone talking about Rogue one being a movie that happens after The force awakens in the timeline of things.

Sure... it's 45 years, but it's ToS, TNG, DS9 and Voy in between where it should be and where that person thinks it takes place.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

A simple-minded moron gives show a good score aimed at simple-minded morons. Shocker.

His trek expert mate claims that Discovery takes place 70 years after Voyager at 3mins into this review....

.....

I watched 3 mins of this review.

Sarek is a pretty well known character being Spock's father. Even if the ship design threw you off that is a pretty big clue for the audience as to setting.

That is offensively harsh.  I'm not a simple mine moron.

The difference between Oldtrek and Newtrek (JJ-Trek).

Kirk vs. Chang - two experienced professionals, intelligent, with motives. In the end Chang gets overconfident, boastful & distracted, the crew of the Enterprise is outsmarting him. The setup is reminiscent of old war movies with battleships and u-boats.

Cumberbatch effortlessly squelches some space bugs to feed to the audience how superior of an enemy he is. There is no danger of losing and hence no drama - press F to win.
