Um what are the handheld sales for the region? I know the DS is the best selling system for both regions. So I would like to know 3DS and Vita sales.
Also the thread title is misleading. It should say Japan is the second biggest HOME console market again.
It's kind of funny that the 3DS in Japan only sold quite a bit more than all of that combined.
Japan has the world's biggest handheld market. The Switch let it overtake UK's market, because it takes tge space between handheld and console. It's also a bit iffy to include both the WiiU and the Switch in the same comparision.
Bet with PeH:
I win if Arms sells over 700 000 units worldwide by the end of 2017.
Bet with WagnerPaiva:
I win if Emmanuel Macron wins the french presidential election May 7th 2017.

The term "markets" generally refers to individual countries. VGChartz tracks the five biggest ones: USA, Japan, UK, Germany, and France. Then it also tracks the regions of North America and Europe, which are combinations of markets.
In my opinion we should not count Wii-U numbers

He's counting the European countries as seperate countries, otherwise, mainland Europe would be well ahead of either.
Generally, UK is counted as being in the same "market" as the rest of Europe.
For homeconsoles, the order is USA - Europe - Japan
For handhelds, it's the exact opposite.

Considering the strong economic ties, common currecy, free trade, open borders, shared regulations, it would make sense to consider the core EU states as 1 market. It is fully possible for someone in Belgium to regularly frequent stores in France or the Netherlands.

Ok thanks. So I was confusing "market"(UK) with "region"(Europe) . That makes things easy to understand. |
Well Europe isn't a country ... so comparing it to Japan would be unfair ...
