Forums - Gaming - Atari Box, $300 and will run Linux

The console is a box you buy to get Mario (or Space Invaders).  Where are the games?

They are exploting the worst aspect of nostalgia tho!

Nobody wants a faux wooden brown fucking console!!!

Im kinda expecting a Ouya like situation... it ll end up running emulators and thats about it.

Sales probably wont be that spectacular either.

You need 3rd party (new multiplats), and have some 2nd/1st party and this "atari box" doesnt seem like it plans on doing so.

It sounds like its a small 299$ pc that runs linux and those steam games that are ported there too.

Based on that article, I would say it won't do well beyond the core Atari fan base.

There is no distinct reason 'why' I would want that box. The article suggests is going to be another TV box to stream media content plus gaming support. Sure it would obviously have Atari games, but most of those have been readily available on numerous other systems.

Considering its price and what I view as a severe lack of benefit, I would say this will have trouble even making the crowd source funding goals.

Just not enough information to know where this device will be positioned. I am interested but at 300 bones, my expectation is pretty high. With already mature consoles in the market from Switch, PS4 and X1, I am not sure exactly where this device fits. Currently there is nothing separating it from the other competitors. Maybe it will come preinstalled with all Atari games which should pull at the retro crowd.

Are they still going to do this? I feel this is like watching someone trying to pull off a pretty dangerous stunt that's guaranteed to cost him his legs and you're just saying to him "Don't do it! Don't be an idiot!".

Only this is that since this is an indiegogo campaign, they are getting paid to do the stunt and it is no actually their body they are hurting, lol

Does the core Atari fanbase even care about this French Atari?

This is France only? I thought this was a global item?

The current Atari is a French company.
