Forums - Gaming - Which "Mature" titles are actually immature?

An M does not mean that the game is mature, but means that the game is intended for a mature audience. Most M games are very immature. The most "mature" game of all time is hands down Brain Age.

There's nothing wrong with an M-rated game being really immature and stupid and full of tits, blood, naughty language, and explosions, but there's something wrong with immature gamers think that those games are the coolest around at the expense of amazing games of every other rating. The fact is, most of these M-rated games are targeted towards 12 year old boys who watch summer blockbuster action movies and wrestling and aren't paying attention to any political/moral/philosophical themes behind the violence.

Hell, I'm one of the few idiots who actually likes to play Manhunt, but I'm not for a single second going to pretend it's more "mature" than Tetris or Portal or SimCity.

This thread is why the current M rating sucks.

M does not mean a game is mature. M means you need to be mature to play the game.

And while Grand Theft Auto may be considered immature...you should be mature if you're playing a game that kills people, steals cars, has foul language and sexual themes, etc.

QTF I totally agree.

See, my problem with this is that maybe you should be mature for a game like that, but that's not Rockstar's target audience. Have you seen the GTAIV commercial? It's nothing but hookers and stuff blowing up. You can't tell me they aren't targeting teens. Yes, the themes are "mature" but the game is aimed at kids.

That's all I'm saying.  That you should be mature to play the game.  That's all the M rating really means.  Doesn't mean the game itself is mature.  And it doesn't mean they don't target it to teens...that's just a fault of the industry I guess...marketing games to teens that end up rated for 17 and above.  Makes the games seem cooler to the kids anyway.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

QFT, the main point I'm trying to make, people confuse M rating for actual maturity in the game itself.

@Rocketpig, Ok RE series is debatable I think its fine cause it reminds me of the B rated horror movies I watch (story wise) but everything else doesn't seem over the top so it got on my immature list it fits horror in every sense.

This thread just seems like a way for Nintendo fanboys to feel better while insulting series that aren't on their systems. Oh yes, I would have quoted you Ben but I hadn't come to this thread earlier.

Either way, insult Grand Theft Auto all you want but it has mature themes of government and drugs that most children would never understand. When my friend's little brother played Vice City, he was baffled that a gang would be buying and selling soda. Baffled I say!

Excessive blood or gore can be made for immature people, but unless we're talking about Psychonauts, Okami, or other niche titles, then most games are played by children whether Mario or Doom.

Who's insulting series that aren't on Nintendo consoles?  Personally I love Devil May Cry, Call of Duty 4, and have been called a Nintendo fanboy haha.  The thread is about people playing crappy games cause they have blood gore and such thrown in to get sales.

Don't get me wrong, I love the RE series. But IMO, on pure "maturity" level, it's not even on par with Halo. RE is kitschy and funny at moments but when you really look at the series, it's incredibly stupid and juvenile... and not in a good way.

Ehhh mmm, this thread is no made for Ninty fanboys...

But oh well GTA is played most by teens and childrens, in my country is a classic and there is a couple of arcades in my street running SA, only the children go to play with it... my bro loved GTA:SA and he was only 10...

And the excessive blood and gore is targeted to inmature people, maybe the story is "mature"  but the gameplay is targeted to teenagers...

No one even mentioned platforms till you came here, and people have been very complimentary of a lot of franchises that have never been on Nintendo platforms like Bioshock and Mass Effect.  You're baiting Montana, and you know better.
