Forums - Nintendo - Doom and Wolfenstein II The New Colossus coming to Switch

The Switch will still miss out on multiplats, especially from big hitters from EA and Activision (Battlefield and Call of Duty.) but it's a good start, Switch needs Frostbite support so you get to experience titles like Battlefield, Ass Effect, Dragon Age and so on.

If Switch can run Doom, I don't see why it couldn't run the current gen COD games. I suspect it's more an issue of how much Activision can be bothered.

I concur. There is no reason why COD couldn't run on Switch.
No reason why frostbite games couldn't either.

The experience *will* be compromised in terms of framerate, resolution, texture quality and so on, but that's to be expected... And I doubt Switch owners would care anyway.

Cool to see Switch getting not only some AAA titles, but some "mature" ones as well. Payday 2, L.A. Noire, Skyrim, and now Wolfenstein 2 and Doom. I think devs are starting to realize that more sales probably = more $, even on a Nintendo console.

I'd never have expected Doom and Wolfenstein to come to the Switch. Fallout 4 seemed like a bigger possibility because it isn't so technically demanding. This blows the roof off of the underpowered arguments. Yes, it'll be downgraded, but it's still freaking Doom running on Id tech 6. And Wolfenstein 2 hasn't been released on anything yet, so that is a huge announcement.

Will wait for Digital Foundry before commenting, but I think we all know what the shortcomings of these are gonna be. The same thing happened on Wii U, so titles are a surprise. Must have been easy enough to downgrade, something this will have over Wii U.

So long as the core game remains intact and performance is stable, I'm fine with a few necessary cutbacks. I bought the 7th gen COD games on Wii and those were heavily downgraded from PS3/360, more so than I'd expect any Switch port to be.

I will be buying both of these 100% guaranteed. The question now is whether or not Bethesda bothers with porting Wolf: New Order and Old Blood.

Please, please do. Please do this.

I think the reason 3rd parties like Bethesda are jumping on the Switch bandwagon is the same reason many devs went with PSP and Vita instead of DS and 3DS - it's a powerful handheld option, where they can ALMOST do the same experience in portable form as on the mainstream console counterparts.

For all intents and purposes, Switch really is more like PSP and Vita than the GameBoy and DS lines - except it comes with Nintendo goodness.

My purchase will depend on the inclusion of motion/pointer controls. I can't stand dual analog controls for shooters.

I was planning to get Doom on PS4, but I will probably just wait until I get a Switch. Portable Doom!

As a Vita owner, I agree with you. It has a similar form factor and now they added some real power and a good screen. And good controls. I would say that my biggest gripe with 3DS was the lack of real game controls, since it lacked a second analog stick.

If it gets the same kind of games the PSP got and the kind of ports Vita received in the first year, plus Nintendo's own output, it will have a great game library.

Huge surprise for me, I'll get Doom for sure if the port is good, Wolfensten II maybe too.
