Forums - Gaming - Why dont games let you button map freely? (consoles)

I have often wondered this, is there any logic to why games dont offer this? (except I guess fighting games).

Its often beena source of frustration being restrited to choosing a predetermined setup, why cant we just choose which button does what?

On PS4 you can go to accessibility options and do just that.

On Xbox you can have different button layouts for different games. The PS4 probably has this feature too.

If I remember right, Wii U VC games let you button map as well.

Good question. Especially since some people have disabilities and may need certain configurations just to be able to play the games at all.

But as mentioned above, PS4 lets you remap the buttons universally.

~Edit~
Apparently on Xbox One as well.

Wow, I guess you do learn something new every day!

Neat-o. Did not know this.

Not exactly helpful being universal though. There are some games that you just want say one button switched with another.

If you do it universal, you need to remember to flip it back when playing another game.

I have always found it dumb that games don't let you do this. I feel like most all PC games let you.
