Forums - Nintendo - Game Freak on why Pokemon Gray never happened, still interested in remakes

I think the bigger question is why Pokemon Z didn't happen.

But I wish they'd just stop with the BS milking with multiple versions of the same game.

The third versions (yellow, emerald, platinum) etc wouldn't be too bad if they let owners of the original buy it as DLC. It's essentially like a GOTY version, except the owners of the original have no option to upgrade and have to pay full price anyway.

It's honestly disgusting, but they get away with it as it's been the same since 96.

As for remakes... I'd be happy with them remaking Red every gen.

You're complaining about a (admittedly dated) trope which is just part of the Pokemon legacy. It was originally done pre-internet gaming to encourage trading between game owners. Personally I feel it's outlived its usefulness - particularly the trade to evolve pokemon.

The GOTY thing wouldn't work, the whole point is starting the adventure from scratch- which you couldn't do properly without wiping your save so would make the idea redundant. You'll probably find those that do get the third version have no issue with the setup so far from being disgusting, its just seen as part of the parcel. Thise that don't subscribe to it just don't buy it, hence why the third version doesn't sell aswell.

Your last point contradicts you previous one - making 3 versions is disgusting but remake Red every year and take my money?

Around the Network

I would like to see a Diamond / Pearl remake. I loved Ruby and Saphire but wasn't interested in Diamond / Pearl during the early DS era (I only wanted games with great graphics or great touch support for some reason) so the games would be completely new for me.

A gen 4 remake could also shorten the time the Switch has to wait for its first Pokémon game. They probably won't finish the new generation by late 2018 but a gen 4 remake next year on a new engine (sort of as a playing ground) and then a new generation in 2019 would be great.

The remakes have more effort put into them then say... the minute differences between sun and moon. Though I said every-gen so it'd be every 5-6 years or so.

Couldn't you? It's not possible for them to add a second save file to make that possible?

Yup, there's no reason that from 3ds onwards the subsequent versions couldn't be offered as DLC, much cheaper, for people who own the original.

Though SecondWar brings up another long-standing issue with pokemon games, why do they STILL only have one save-slot after 2 decades.

I think Diamond and Pearl remakes are locked, if only because of tradition. I sort of hope they flip the usual generation traditions though and before we get a new game, they remake Diamond and Pearl on the Switch and use that engine as the foundation for a brand new adventure.

Would give them time to hone their skills, designs and what not for whatever new Pokemon or forms they bring to the new game.
