Forums - Politics - White Supremacist Drives Car into Counter-Protesters (20 Injured, One Dead)

The more you back a group into a corner the more they'll lash out. I would guess things will get worse before they get better especially as people focus on minimizing others' voices instead of converting them

Good, white supremasists belong in a corner and they will continue to lose ground. Let them "lash out" if they want it will only expose them for the garbage they are.

I think that guy is trying to say that he doesn't like to get his face punched every time he goes out, you know, self-defense is justifiable.

Pacifists believe that violence is unjustifiable. Example, Ghandi.
He said “If someone slaps you on one side of your face, turn the other one to him."

Not "hit them back because it's justified."

I know he misused the word pacifist, I’ve just explained you what he probably meant to say ….

It's the convienant lie people tell themselves. Neo-Nazis/KKK and their ilk are still around.

And Trump deserves blame. He's more decisive in blaming Nordstorm for not carrying Ivanka's handbags than he is to condemn white supremasists. He is a weasal president and he won't clearly condemn them because he knows they are an important bloc of his voter base.

He condemned all the groups for inciting violence...

Now yes, if the person who drove the car was a white supremacist, then Trump should go after those people specifically and call it out as terrorism. But lets have more information come in.

He won't outright condemn white supremasists and you know why he won't. Lets be honest here. "Both sides/all sides" is often a convienant excuse to wash one's hands of having to take a definitive stance.

Lots of twitterians blaming Trump for this one...

Sad to see the kind of shit going on in America these days. BLM, KKK, all these stupid groups promote violence and division. Like, how the fuck can this sort of thing happen these days? I thought the KKK was long gone already. Hoping the sick bastard who rammed that car into those people rots in jail for a long time.

Eh, you cannot put BLM and the KKK in the same category.

All of them promote violence one way or another. Of course one has a far worse more degrading and terrible history (KKK), but lets not say that BLM is a totally fair group. I mean they shot 6 police officers in Dallas a couple years back, and have spread violence too. Neither group helps unify America in any sort of fashion.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Members of BLM have called for violence and death to white people, so I don’t see why not ….

As I said, lets have a confirmation come in. Protesting is not against the law, whether they be white spremacists or any other group. If Trump doesn't respond, I'll go along with your criticism as well.

How edgy of you.

You just don't get it because you, like many of your stance, can't step back far enough to evaluate the reality of it all.

Protesting doesn't change the opinions of apposing sides, it solidifies it and emboldens it.

Protesting against a hate group doesn't make that hate group go away, it just enforces their already stupid ideas and opinions, and gives them a sense of validity to what they believe - in the white supremacists case, the opposition just makes them fight back harder, and increase the ferrocity of their actions.

This is almost always the case, because protesting does not encourage logical debate, protesting generally functions explicity to push an opinion or agenda on others and reject the opinion and agenda of others, it's a war of attrition, nobody ever wins, and without logical debate, opinions are never altered, they're just doubled down on and the rift between groups increases.

It isn't about who is right and who is wrong, because people never get to a point where they can explain why, it ultimately boils down to a shouting match, and the people who turned up in defense of either side, go home holding the same opinions they held the day before, only now they are a even less likely to question themselves.

Ah yes, because the most effective protest is one held in one's own basement. Let me tell you, just ignoring something's not going to make it go away. Just ignoring the Nazis and their build-up, while avoiding confronting them, did nothing.

And the opposite of staying home and putting your head under a pillow will magically make things go away?

Life doesn't work that way either.

An expert on the KKK has citied that counter protests against such groups *does* work in minimizing their reach. Logical debate cannot be had with a person who doesn't have logical ideas either. Hating someone on the basis on their skin pigment is not a logical position to begin with.
