Forums - Gaming - Why do game companies never release games in the summer?

Should more games be released in the summer?

Yes 60 80.00%

No 15 20.00%

Total:75

The reality is that Xmas season is *by far* the biggest time of year for video game sales. So, pubs and devs want their titles to be hot during this season. That's why almost all big games come out in the fall. The games that come out in the first few months of the year are mostly games that simply weren't ready for release before Christmas.

Like, from June to September, we never see new releases. I have no idea why companies don't ever exploit this time perioid - kids are out of school, people usually take time off, ect. But instead, we are forced to play old releases for whatever reason. So why don't companies release new games during the summer time anyway?

Wut? Plenty of shit comes out in September, and usually the last half of August. Uncharted Lost Legacy soon, can't get bigger than that. Even in June and July we got some yuge games, Tekken 7, WipEout Omega, Crash, FFXII, Pyre, Lawbreakers, Splatoon 2, Fortnite, Sundered etc. For June historically the games in CGI's post, and inFamous 2.

But the obvious answer: better weather, people go outside, go on holidays, normal human stuff

Thats why I still till...

Edit: Nvm, I said to. But september is usually a good month for gaming, but June to August are terrible.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Because you own an Xbox One, barney. That's your problem.

At least I don't have to worry  enjoy the so called "amazing" online experience...

Like, I would rather go through hell and back before experiencing splatoon 2 like this...

Like, I would rather spend the summer with nothing to do than go through the hell above.

barney, you will never have to use voice chat on Switch. Do you really think that anybody would want to talk to you?

Maybe you have a point. I mean no one would want to talk to anyone after hearing some amazing logic from Rol, especially after going through that setup.

Well, at least its to complicated for the kiddies to use.

I don't think that there are less games in summer than in spring or winter. Autumn has definitely the most releases, but the rest of the year is pretty much equaly good/bad. (Except for January, there aren't any games in January.)

barney, remember when you made the threads to predict failure for Switch and I tried to save you? You need to learn to listen to Rol. The reason for this thread's existence is really your Xbox One ownership. Neither the PC, PS4, Switch or 3DS have the problem you wanted to talk about.

I expected 30 million sales, which is hardly a "failure". Yes, the Switch is doing well Rol, congrats! I don't need your saving. In fact, I even joined the bodyguard program to try and save you (granted, I gave up, but still). And look, if the Switch sells 100 million or whatever, you can scream from the roof about how right you were Rol.

And besides, its not like all my predictions were bad. I said back in 2015 the XB1 would sell 30 million before the Wii U sold 15 million, and no one fucking believed me until it happened! So congrats Rol, you will probably be correct this time.

Splatoon, Crash, Uncharted, Tekken 7 ...

Honestly though if I just left my comment at that i'd be a dick move. The reason we're seeing a lot of big titles this summer is just because there's so many games that publishers need to fit into a unique release window. Normally there are only one, maybe two big games per summer. This entire year has been packed to the brim, especially the first half, though Holiday looks a bit disappointing for platforms not titled Switch.

Uncharted has only ever launched in early May.

I was listing games this year. The new Uncharted comes out before Summer ends iirc

I know, which is why I edited the post.

Oh ok, sorry
