Forums - Nintendo - Something I've noticed in Splatoon matches

Just had a match in which 2 people dropped out so it was 2 on 4. I was wondering how we could be losing so badly when I was racking up a score of over 1000.

The higher you score then the more chance you are to lose. You only score when covering blank floor or covering enemy ink. The map is 2,000p. If you team is dominent then your score should be only a little over the quarter of the stage area i.e. say 500-600. If you are scoring well over 1,000 then it usually mean there is far too much enemy ink, your team hasn't contrlled territory and your team isn;t splatting enough. Good strong wins have scores less than 600p for all 4 players.

How works on local play? Naturally it is possible to start a 3x4 local match. There is any kind of handicap?

I've been on plenty of teams where 2 players score over or around 1000.  The end result is usually very lopsided for the team with those players.  What that means is that there was a lot of enemy ink which the person who got 1000 covered.  I found 1 weapon that works much better for me and if the teams are 4 on 4 my teams usually win and I usually score around 1000 when I use that weapon.  Don't know why that weapon is so OP for me when higher even level weapons don't work as well.

The majority of the close wins are because I or someone else took the time to cover all the side areas from the starting areas while the other team didn't and went straight for the middle.  That gives us a 3-5% advantage from the start.

Wired connection, only had one disconnect in my 80 hours and its because I forced it.

I would use a wired connection if it was anywhere near my Switch, but where it is now, that's just not happening.

its the way the game treats the dropouts. the amount of ink you covered acts as the EXP and gold you earned for that round. When you force quit the game you dont get anything, which is why some players could have 0p of ink covered. it also doesnt retract kills when you quit either, and your kill count will still be displayed along with the 0p ink turfed. (thats a good way to distinguish in a player lost connection or rage quit)

one time i did actually win a game 3v4. it was in my final days of the original Splatoon and one of our guys quit in the middle of a match, but somehow we were able to beat them even being one man down. another memorable incident for me was when i was left in a 1v1 match after a server hiccup.

but luckily with Splatoon 2 they added a ragequit prevention system, so you can be banned from Splatoon 2 now if you drop out too often.

That ban negatively affects bad connections. I was getting a bad connection due to the power lines fault in the sea for middle eastern and south east asian countries and almost got banned for it. That has happened mid game as well so I would have kills 0p without ragequits

Yeah I get that I also cover all ink in the starting areas and when we are losing I take a side route to splat areas where the enemy ignores. I even won once with that 45.4-44.9 or something. I usually get between 700-900 points
