Sweeet. I'm really looking forward to this game. The screens look great. I only played a few hours of Fallout 2, but I really like the story behind the series.

I meant before Diablo... At least I never played anything like it before then. Since the two games have released, there have been a few imitators. From what I have heard, not very good ones.

Eh, there've been a good number of imitators really. Nox, Titan Quest, and Hellgate London to name a few off the top of my head.

THIS is what Fallout 3 should be like:

...
Seriously - Fallout 2 is the reason why I started playing RPG:s in general. If Fallout 3 turns out to be just Oblivion with radiation and guns I'll probably have to break something.

I wanted to play Hellgate London but don't have a PC up and running yet. Do you recommend it?

Honestly, of all the games I'm looking forward to in the next year or so (Spore, Fallout 3, Starcraft 2, Little Big Planet, and, to a lesser extent, Mario Kart Wii) I have to say, realistically:
MKWii will be a racing game, period. It'll be fun, and I'll play it the rest of my life, whatever. It won't change the way I look at games.
Little Big Planet will screw around with the way I look at physics and gameplay, and I'll never find enough people to play with, but I'll have fun with it, which is the point of video games
Starcraft 2...oh, Starcraft, I almost flunked out of college because of you...could anything come close? No, so they're making Starcraft 1 with better graphics and updates stuff and it'll be fun, but I bet it won't be as good as the original. I'm crossing my fingers.
Spore...spore could never live up to my expectations, but I will have fun with it, no matter what. Creature editor? I'll be on that thing for hours upon hours
So, of course, that brings us to Fallout 3. Fallout 1&2 were so great due to their humor, their stories, their inside jokes, their perks, their character creator, the dark humor, the gritty scenery...their soul.
I just...just...don't see them hitting the nail on the head for this one, but again, crossing my fingers that they get it right enough where I will take time out of my responsibilities to actually play through it. We'll see
Just my 2 cents

No, definitely not. Titan Quest is pretty good though.

It's not really that unique in it's design overall. There were a lot of games with similar style like the Might and Magic games. They were basically the same thing minus the 3rd person perspective (and with less cool powers). Not to mention... |
Meh. I miss the original base categories (RPG, Adventure, Action...etc). Diablo 2 is a hack'n'slash Action game IMO. The entire story is nothing but an excuse to motivate the player to go out, kill enemies, take their stuff...etc.
I also detest the idea that a level-up system is synonymous with RPG. To me that makes absolutely no sense. When did Role-Playing Game suddenly come to mean a Level-Up Game?
Going back to my original point, you have real Role-Playing Games like Fallout 2 and Baldur's Gate 2 in the same sentence as a hack'n'slash game like Diablo 2. Seeing them lumped together is painful because they're completely different experiences.

Well Fallout 1 and 2 are some of the greatest RPG's ever (Baldur's gate is up there too). I'm sorry to break it to you, but Fallout 3 will be Oblivion with guns, ratiation, radiant AI, VATS and a $50 box of shit.

RPG is a fairly broad genre, but yes, it's defined by a statistical character development. I mean, consider what defines an action game... Fighting things lol. There are a lot of very broad genres out there, and yes, RPG is one of the broad ones.
