FANTASY ROUNDUP: WEEK 1
It was certainly an unpredictable start to the fantasy season, with a number of major injuries (David Johnson) breakout performances (Kareem Hunt) and absolute letdowns (Le’Veon Bell) resulting in more than a few notable upsets. Week 1 also saw the top tier of QBs underperform significantly, with Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees putting up less than spectacular numbers, while Matthew Stafford and Sam Bradford had career days.
Closest Game: The Loins 94.68, Super Club of Athletic Buddies 91.04
This game wasn’t decided until the fourth quarter of the first Monday night game, when Dalvin Book went over the 10 point mark and barely edged Loins ahead. BlowoverKing also benefitted from solid performances by Matthew Stafford (27 points), Jordy Nelson (14), and the Panthers DST (15), but nearly lost due to weak efforts from his TE, Flex, and Kicker. In what has to be an early season contender for fantasy blunder of the year, however, SCAB gambled with new Patriot Phillip Dorsett as his #2 WR. He was rewarded with 0 points, and it ultimately cost him the game despite strong efforts from Mike Gillislee (22) and LeSean McCoy (16), as well as an absence of horrible performances from any of his players that touched the football during their game.
Biggest Upset: Arch 92.78, Nohrian Scum 76.02
A matchup that I was favored to win by more than 30 points; if anyone needed a reminder that fantasy projections are unreliable, this was it. Angelus benefitted from surprise games by Terrance West (14 points) and the Pittsburgh defense (16), and added that to solid performances from Derek Carr, Isaiah Crowell, and Zach Ertz to easily exceed expectations. It was more than enough to overcome a mixed effort from MT’s players; Jonathan Stewart and Todd Gurley had big days, but Le’Veon Bell, Sammy Watkins, and Russell Wilson all turned in duds. I realized this was a lost cause when the Texans’ defense, best in the league last year, posted 0 points in a blowout loss to the Jaguars.
Biggest Blowout: It Ertz when Eifert 106.02, The Longest Foot 55.48
Here’s a fun tidbit; LudicrousSpeed had a combined 1.2 points between his #1 WR and his TE - and still won by roughly 50 points. That’s the magic of Kareem Hunt, who absolutely torched New England with a fantasy leading 40 points. Solid performances from Ben Roethlisberger (16 points), Stefon Diggs (21) and Ezekiel Elliott (14) put Ertz over the century mark. Sethnintendo didn’t really have a chance after that, but just to make sure, Latavius Murray, T.Y. Hilton, and Jimmy Graham all turned in disappointing performances.

I was talking about your work with the thread and keeping us updated on a regular basis. Although regarding your picks, great job. |
I actually thought your response was a sarcastic way of mocking his picks.

It's cool that you are doing this, but have you figured out yet who SCAB is? |
Nope; my assumption is that he's a lurker who slipped in when I posted the link/pw on the thread for Dongo and Ludicrous.

I like the idea of the fantasy post-week report. Nice job!

Yea I got crushed in fantasy week 1. Good first week initiation I suppose and it didn't help that the guy I was against had Chiefs rookie running back that piled on 40 points for him. Brady didn't get one TD pass either and most my guys sucked it up. I picked up that Bears rookie running back that had a good first week but with my luck who knows what will happen. Hopefully I'll do better this week. If Brady doesn't start producing I might bench his ass for Tyrod Taylor.
