Yerm said: EVERYONE LISTEN this is not Harvest Moon. due to licensing changes in 2013, HM games had to change to the name Story of Season, all official Harvest Moon games are now being named Story of Seasons. this is just the old publisher's attempt to make a similar farming game and sell it as a real HM game because it was the only thing making them money. the only reason they have the name Harvest Moon still is again, due to licensing changes |
This is getting old. Both Natsume and Marvelous are not the original creators of Harvest Moon. Victor Interactive Software is. They went through buyouts and mergers and ended up Marvelous. None of Victor interactive Software guys work there anymore. What was left is now Toybox.
Both Natsume and Marvelous have a claim to Harvest moon, but moreso Natsume. They have been the publishers/funders since day 1. The IP is rightfully theirs.

Although if I'm not mistaken, Marvelous only lost rights to the western name of the IP (Which is "Harvest Moon"). As far as I'm aware Story of Seasons is still known as what it's always been there from the first release 20 years ago for the SNES:
(Story of Seasons JP left, Original Harvest Moon JP right)
Since this is a Japanese franchise we are talking about here Marvelous own the rights of franchise, and since the name Harvest Moon is just the localisation of the title for the west, Story of Seasons is still the offical sequel to the Harvest Moon franchise, since Story of Seasons is 牧場物語 and 牧場物語 is/was Harvest Moon.
Basically Harvest Moon is nothing more than the original localisation title for Story of Seasons. Harvest Moon was just the title for 牧場物語 in the west and now 牧場物語 is Story of Seasons in the west. That is just fact, Natsume only had the the rights to the localisation of the title in the west nothing else.
So while your right about the name "Harvest Moon", that's all it is, the name and nothing else. The actual game however is officially the sequel to every Harvest Moon game released in the west pior to the split between the companies. Every game called Harvest Moon after that, is not a sequel anyway, it's technically a completely different franchise.
