Forums - Nintendo - Metroid: Samus Returns' Fusion Mode Is Amiibo Exclusive

Four amiibo unlock extra content in Metroid: Samus Returns, and Nintendo has now confirmed this content can only be accessed by using the NFC figures.

The new squishy Metroid amiibo not only lets you reveal the location of nearby Metroid on your map, when you beat the game it will also unlock a new "Fusion" difficulty mode where Samus has her suit from Metroid Fusion.

Speaking to Eurogamer, a Nintendo rep confirmed you'll need the figure to access this bonus mode, saying, "this unlockable content is only unlocked using amiibo."

In addition to the squishy Metroid amiibo, a new Samus Aran amiibo will launch alongside the game on September 15. This figure unlocks an extra energy tank, as well as a Metroid II art gallery when you finish the game.

The Zero Suit Samus and classic Samus amiibo that are part of the Super Smash Bros. amiibo line also have special functionality. The former unlocks a bonus energy tank, as well as a Sound Test mode when you beat the game, and the latter unlocks a missile tank, as well as concept art when you finish the game.

Well crap.

Eh... the only worthy content behind amiibo is also behind the BEST amibo aka the squishy Metroid amiibo, I already planned to buy it so no problem really, they should have had some way to unlock it without the Amiibo though like 100% the regular difficulty

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Paid DLC with Nintendo at least comes with shelf decoration. Let's not pretend that this isint paid dlc.

This is right up there with some of the worst practices in gaming.

It also comes "at least" with a much higher price and less availability.

As long as they add an option to buy it digitally (or it does not matter) I don't really care.

My lord. Nintendo has a nice little toy range. Why do they have to go and spoil it with this

Those 2 Metroid games announced at E3 was like being on Cloud 9.
Now, it's right back down to Earth.
I guess I'm lucky that I'm not really a Metroid fan and/or I don't care about playing Metroid games at a higher difficulty, otherwise I'd be fucking furious.

I know amiibo scarcity isn't really an issue anymore, but can you imagine a scenario where you can't find these amiibo in shelves?

DLC that is also rare and scalped would be a nightmare.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Not much coming from the Amiibos then, Fusion mode is confirmed to just be the in game hard mode only Samus has a skin swap.
