A few days ago, we reported that Famitsu confirmed Splatoon 2 had sold 670,955 physical copies in the first three days of the games’ release. We now have a bit more of an insight into how well the title performed in Japan which includes attach-rates and sell-through figures from its initial shipment. It’s also worth noting that The Nintendo Switch console saw impressive sales as well with 100,000 units being snapped up in the midst of stock shortages. Check out the points below:

• Between July 17 and July 23, there was a 251.55 percent increase in  total software sales in Japan
• 987,000 units of software were sold altogether
• Switch sold 100k units, making for the second best week yet
• Splatoon 2 more than doubled the amount of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (285,000 copies in its first week)
• Splatoon 2’s attach rate is 54.14 percent, which is even higher than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s 36.64 percent
• Sold through 65% of its initial shipment

Either they were going with the pokemon strategy of having LOADS of stock available from the get go to be able to satisfy every purchase, or they along with many people from the COMG thread expected it to do even better than it did.

well, it's the shops that order the copies based on their preorders/sales expectations

they'll certainly be able to sell out this initial shipment, but it may take a few days longer than expected due to the Switch shortages

That hardware bottleneck is certainly a problem over there. They'll have to resolve it somehow, or else they risk killing the momentum.

Looks like they need to call Foxconn and have them put their employees on 20 hour shifts while chained to their machine or workbench with a bucket set next to them for bathroom emergency.

Foxconn is hardly taking anyone new in their factories they are replacing every worker with robots/automatisation, they need to produce more robots for those lines.

I work in contract manufacturing. They have a few robots to do certain remedial tasks at my factory. However robots aren't that flexible yet so if you have multiple products of diff customers then a robot would be stumped. Basically robots are good for one thing only. They can't handle variation right now. So if you are just building one board then they are fine. If you are producing numerous different boards then they usually can't handle it (except SMT line which has programs for each different board, once you get off SMT line then it becomes harder to automate for different boards/customers). Technology for variation isn't there yet for certain tasks such as ICT testing or Rail/Flowsolder (placing through hole parts). Still cheaper to pay someone low wage than to deal with a buggy robot thats trying to do more than one thing.  The technology will eventually get there but it is still a ways off.

At foxconn in Kunshan? Why you stay? It is certainly not a death city/region yet but if you go their every year you can clearly see it is schrinking.
