True in some cases and not in others. Metroid is not a RPG. It's an action adventure game with RPG elements. Zelda and FF are true RPGs. In that context, FF VI's content (plus better story) makes it a better game IMO.

Umm, no. Zelda isn't a RPG. I understand making a case for Zelda 2 or Breath of the Wild being RPGs, but the others simply aren't.

I don't like to go into long debates these days, but in Zelda you have a story driven game with hit points (hearts) upgraded equipment, NPCs to talk to, and a world to explore. It's an action RPG.

Out of those games I've only played FFVI, GT3, Link to the Past and part of Super Metroid. I voted for FFVI. My favorite part of FFVI is the fantastic cast of characters, which is probably my favorite ever and I love how the sidequests in the last part of the game flesh the characters out. The story has so many amazing and mamorable events (Opera scene being one of the highlights) and Kefka is an amazing villain (better than bland Sephiroth) Also, the soundtrack is glorious.

Maybe so, but with primitive graphics, I doubt it compares. 

RCR actually looks better due to a cartoonish art direction. Streets of Rage kind of went for a semi-realistic look and has aged worse. Legend of the Mystical Ninja (SNES) plays very similarly and is also a beat'em up.

It's a toss-up between Super Metriod and LttP for me. They occupy the #4 & #5 spots in my best games ever list, and are my favorite games in their respective series and the two best games of their generation. But since Zelda is going to be over-represented in the final poll, I chose Super Metroid.

 

EDIT: Can you do an 8-entry poll for the final with the runners-up filling up wild card spots, or was this a single-elimination "4 battle royales → Fatal Four-way" thing only?

You are the second to suggest using the runner ups. I will consider it.

The Legend of Dragoon, Shadow of the Colossus, Demon's Souls, Final Fantasy XII/IX, Resident Evil 4, God of War 3, any Disgaea, Digimon World 3, Persona 3/5, Pokemon Crystal, Diablo 1/2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Okami, stuff like that (apart from The Last of Us, that you added on the second thread)

There was too little room to include so many games. Perhaps next time, I will do 100 games instead of 40. I used Dark Souls to cover the whole series including Demon's Souls. I almost included a Metal Gear game. I put in 3 Final Fantasy games already. Shadow of The Colossus, Disgaea, and Okami are too Niche to have a real shot at winning. Now Legend of Dragoon is a very interesting choice. I would never think anyone would suggest that game! Is that your favorite game?
