Forums - Nintendo - Most Surprising Nintendo Experiences

I am surprised, and disappointed, that now with more than 75 hours in Breath of the Wild, im starting to dislike the game. Hopefully I was just in a bad mood yesterday...

Im surprised by how great Splatoon 2 is. I feel like I finally "get" Splatoon.

Im surprised at how as a kid I thought Mario Galaxy was boring, and as of the Wii U eshop dowoad from 2015, I still think it is.

Im surprised that only 7 chapters away from finishing, I never unlocked the fan service in FE awakening. Am I just fucking dumb? Or is it all a lie.

Im surprised by how garbage Conquest's first few hours are. Holy shit made me stop playing.

Splatoon exploding and being a lot more fun than i expected.

Zelda BOTW being extremely life sucking.

Xenoblade Chronicles X being the most disappointed I've ever been with a game and the sole reason why I never hype up games anymore.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

- Finally getting an NES and realizing that I disliked both Mario and Duck Hunt.

- Being blown away by Link to the Past, which was probably my favorite game until I played FF VI.

- Realizing that, despite being something of a Nintendo fanboy, I was actually a much bigger fan of third-party games in general. Thus I finally accepted that jumping to the PS1 was my fate.

Eternal Darkness Sanity's Requiem, I was 8 at the time when I played that game, and it was the surprise for me of how in depth a game's story could entice me, it really spawned my passion for video games as a whole. Though it is technically Silicon Knights as a developer it is still Nintendo published and they're first M rated title, so I'm gonna allow it.

I can't believe I forgot Eternal Darkness...

I can acknowledge that it hasn't aged perfectly, but I love to go back and relive it occasionally...

There are so many little touches that I can still appreciate...

And the writing is still among the best in the industry...

Have a nice day...

I usually have high expectations for Nintendo so I don't get surprised too often...but I do remember not expecting the Virtual Console. The reveal of New Super Mario Bros. Wii and the multiplayer madness hyped me probably more than anything since Mario 3.

ARMS. I really didn't like the look of it on reveal but decided to get it due to the Switch library being in its infancy. Turns out to be my favourite Switch game after Zelda.

I would have to say Arms. Nintendo took a concept that seems bare bones on the surface level that only seemed like a spam to win game, and yet they somehow took it, made it interesting, and added a lot more strategy than it really needed, turning it into probably the most underrated Nintendo title on Switch currently.

I'd agree that did do a lot more with Arms than I initially expected, and I was one of the guys who had confidence in it from Day 1 (for it to not be 1-2 Switch 2)

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Breath of the Wild. Had no idea how much I needed a open world Zelda game in my life.

Everything about Xenoblade Chronicles.
