Feel free to dig around that mess.
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I would prefer a 100€ console with 20 classic PSX games
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 8
Xenogears
Parasite Eve
Metal Gear Solid
Resident Evil 1 DC
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Wild Arms
Crash Bandicoot
Crash 2
Vagrant Story
Symphony of the Night
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Suikoden 1
Suikoden 2
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2
Twisted Metal
Tomb Raider 2
Legacy of Kain Blood Omen or Soul Reaver
Straight up, plug n play, no PSN bullshit.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I'm not trying to argue whether region locking is necessary, or whether it's a legal requirement. Clearly it isn't as evidenced by the PS3, and Microsoft consoles, as you pointed out. Region locking shouldn't exist, and it blatantly anti-consumer. |
It makes sense for the PSOne because some games just wouldn't run on NTSC or PAL TV sets and because back then, there were issues with how the games were built, both of which went away not long afterwards when the PSX was changed into the PSOne. Still, at least for current gen games, which might have issues if someone moves to another country and then tries to run them, they should allow region changes, especially since the problem isn't the game, but your account. It's tied to a country rather than allowing for it to move.
