Yeah they would still self publish, and they'd get good exclusivity deals. I'd kill somebody for PS4 exclusive games made by Nintendo. As far as PC goes I think they'd be taking a huge loss due to depressed game prices on steam (they either sell their game for $30 on steam, or lose sales to competition), and Valve's 30% cut.

Big AAA games are usually at (or above) standard full price games on Steam these days, so they could still easily sell at $60. And Valves cut isn't really any different to the cut that retailers take of their physical sales + the cost of packaging and distribution anyways.

Nah. They can't sell a digital game for $60 on steam when every other game out there costs $30 on kinguin, or with steam sales. Do people really pay $60 for a digital game? IMO that's highway robbery.

Pretty sure Sega, Ubisoft & 2k/Rockstar all charge full price for their new Steam releases.

Never heard of kinguin before, but they look a lot like a key reseller, so pretty similar to a used games store. And well despite used games being available for lower prices that hasn't stopped physical games from selling at full price.

And I personally have before and will again pay the full price of £40 (standard full price for a game in the UK) for new PC games that I want, just like I would for console games. Won't pay the £50 that Civilization V is listed for, but still.

In store they do, but I don't really think people pay full price for digital. They either go to Kinguin or wait for a steam sale. Regular prices on the steam store are just there to make you poop your pants when it goes on sale. People see the regular price tag of $60 and impulse buy the game on sale at $30. Then they don't play said game until months or years later. The problem with Nintendo on steam is that I don't think they would be game for this pricing model. After all, how often do Nintendo games go on sale in regular stores? Almost never, that's how often. You might get a small list of Nintendo selects three years after release, but that's it. This is why so many Nintendo games hold their price years, and even decades down the road.

I think there's still plenty of people who will pay full price on day 1 for PC games. At the very least recent stats for Ubisoft games should show that. The PC playerbase wouldn't drop off so significantly if people were waiting for sales or whatnot. It would instead start low and then gradually increase as more people bought it on sale.

Besides, Nintendo games already compete with other games, people only have so much time and money to spend afterall and them being on a different platform isn't going to change that. So if Nintendo can keep their prices high now, why couldn't they on PC too? It's not as if people would suddenly start thinking "oh those games aren't worth as much anymore", and with Nintendo likely remaining reluctant to put their games on sale even those that did want to wait may give in sooner or later and just buy it anyways.

GTA V has been at full prize for a long time on steam. Even after all these years I have never seen it below $30 on steam sales. It still one of the best selling games monthly regardless of price. Of course, that Nintendo could do that same feat is another matter. (RotTR is also still 60 bucks O.O)
