Off the top of my head:

Metal Gear
Splinter Cell
Hitman
Thief
Sly Cooper
Syphon Filter (although that's really only half of Siphon Filter games)

You could even argue that Dishonored and Assassin's Creed are series that heavily feature stealth. By hey, why actually do a simple google search when you can proudly be so openly ignorant.

Look it's nobody's fault but your own that you made shit choices when it comes to what qualifies as "third person shooters" and what games to include in your list.

I went on wikipedia and half of your list is listed under action-adventure, but hey I guess they are as ignorant as me...

The other half is either non major at all (seriously Sly Cooper did not even manage to sell 5M for the whole franchise), not even a franchise (only one Thief game on console) or a died franchise (Syphon Filter).

"Metal Gear is a series of action-adventure stealth video games,"
"Hitman is a stealth video game series"
"Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is a series of award-winning stealth video games"
"Thief is a series of stealth video games"
"Sly Cooper is a franchise centered on a series of platform stealth video games"
"Syphon Filter is a third-person shooter stealth video game series"

Literally the first sentence in all of these series wikipedia articles. All you had to do was read the first sentence. I mean in all seriousness, do you have trouble reading?

And seriously? Sly isn't a major franchise because it "only" has a handful of million + sellers, and better than 95% of video games? Welp. I'd hate to see what you'd call Metroid or Mega Man.

Fair enough.

Honestly, I don't think genres now are as easily defined as they were in previous generations. Gameplay has evolved beyond keeping games in specific genres now, where we have countless games that bridge the gap between multiple gameplay types. Mass Effect for example could fit into both RPG and TPS categories, just like (as you've pointed out this thread) Uncharted could be defined as both Action Adventure and TPS.

I don't think anyone really wants you to remove the likes of Metal Gear Solid and Mass Effect, because key parts of those games are indeed based around TPS elements, people just want you to add Uncharted to the list because it's far more of a TPS than both MGS or ME. It makes no sense to include games based around that gameplay while ignoring one of the games that helped popularise that gameplay with the mass market.

Thanks for your respectful reply Carl, I just added the Uncharted series and edited my graph in order to please some people (while I'm sure some others will find a way to complain it should not be there...).

Nah, I don't think you're going to see anyone put up a real stink.

Also, curious about your horizontal axis. You want to show trends over the years, but your horizontal axis isn't sales per year, it's sales per number of titles in the franchise? Even though in the case of Metal Gear (1987) and Uncharted (2007) the first title in both of these franchises is 20 years apart. Like everything else, this is horribly thought out.  Also, if you're going to include Metal Gear, you should include the other six mainline games, including MGR:R. It's just as much of a "third person shooter" as Resident Evil 7 is.

Well at least its nice seeing UC4 at the top (since its also my favorite game in the franchise).

What about Ghost Recon?

I already told you there is no point in comparing a spin-off, a remake, a prologue or any non-main entry of a franchise sales wise. I mean in all seriousness, do you have trouble reading?

But hey why don't you show us your own graph? All you do is whining.

and I already told you those are actually mainline games of the franchise. It's right there in the bolded text. None of them are spin-offs. None of them are remakes. None of them are prologues. Seriously, try and find a single credible source that says a game like Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is not a mainline game in the series, or better yet that Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, the first two games in the series, are not mainline games.  If you do, they'll be contradicting Kojima himself.

Now that I have answered your question, please show me your own graph :)

The NES Version of Metal Gear differs from the original MSX version. So Metal Gear is canon.

As for Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, Kojima himself said “It happened but it is not a main chapter”. Several subsequent games reference the events of Portable ops. Looks like Wikipedia is wrong on that one.

And the third metal gear game I included, but appears on your list is Metal Gear Rising: Revengance  Well... just jump 38 second into this video of an interview with the Creative Producer of the game from Konami

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7BTtiAQuZ0&ytbChannel=Machinima

Looks like Wikipedia is wrong on that that one too.

But even if I was wrong about those three titles (and I'm not) what about Metal Gear 2,  Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes that you failed to include on your chart?

That's what I thought... wikipedia is wrong too...

Anyway, where is your own graph showing the trending in TPS genre that is not "horribly thought out"? I can't wait to see it!

If you don't want people criticizing your work, keep it to yourself.
